MNCS launches committee to boost women's participation in sports

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS) has established a special committee to promote the participation of women and girls in various sports.

In an interview with journalists, one of the MNCS senior officials, Ivy Chinangwa,said the committee’s formation is a response to a recommendation from Region 5 for member organizations to establish such bodies.

She explained that the committee will play a crucial role in identifying and encouraging women and girls to participate in sports.

On her part, the committee’s chairperson Thombizana Thindwa,expressed optimism about increasing women’s participation in sports.

She said that they have implemented new strategies to achieve this goal.

The committee’s composition is as follows:

Thombizana Thindwa (Chairperson), Maya Kateka (Vice Chairperson), Chimwemwe Banda (General Secretary), Denise Chavula (Vice General Secretary), Thoko Twambi Chalemba (Treasurer).

Other members include Doris Suwedi (Mentorship and Athlete Development), Gladys Mangani Alexander (Training and Capacity Building), Naomi Chinatu (Events Management), Lucy Kadzongwe (Media and Public Relations Officer), Funny Phiri (Research/Data Management), and Chancy Malamula (Policy and Advocacy).

Committee members will serve two-year terms.
