Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) aspirant Moses Walota has taken legal action against the party following a disputed primary election held in Mwanza on April 22, 2025.

Walota, who contested in the primaries, expressed dissatisfaction with how the election was handled and accused party officials of irregularities in the process.

In response to the dispute, he successfully obtained a court injunction from the High Court, restraining the DPP from conducting a fresh primary election or altering the results.

The court’s ruling effectively blocks any attempts by the DPP to annul the original outcome, recount votes, or organize a re-run of the primary.

According to the judgment, the party must respect the results as they stand and recognize the outcome of the April 22 vote.

This development puts pressure on the DPP to address internal grievances transparently and manage its nomination processes with greater accountability.

The court’s decision also highlights growing tensions within the party as it prepares for the 2025 general elections.

Observers say the injunction may set a precedent for how intra-party election disputes are handled going forward.

Walota’s challenge adds to a series of internal wrangles that have recently rocked the DPP, raising concerns about its preparedness for the upcoming national polls.
