…..Warning for demos and vigil
LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-A concerned grouping of Malawian movie producers wants the Copyright Society of Malawi (COSOMA)’s leadership to resign within 72 hours for unfair loyalties distribution.
The grouping has warned that the failure of COSOMA leadership resignation including board chairperson, Executive Director and distribution manager Chimwemwe Mhango, Dora Makwinja and distribution Shadreck Kumtengo respectively will conduct nationwide demonstrations and vigils.
The grouping says the leadership has failed to run the society inclusive of the Malawian movie producers.
The grievances mainly emanates from the recent royalties distribution by COSOMA which according to the aggrieved grouping, they were not recognized making them to suspect some corrupt dealings within the society.
Addressing the news conference on Saturday, Movie Producers Chairperson Aaron Chambo said COSOMA has failed to honor them with loyalties alleging that the society only honors friends and families whose products are not known to the general public.
Chambo queries, “Out of 400 Movie producers only 28 have been given loyalties whose products are not even on the Malawi market. Where are they getting the market for their work to get loyalties?
“Many of our group members are told that their movies are not on the Malawi market, so they are not entitled to a blank media levy, which is untrue”.
Chambo said all avenues for cordial discussion with COSOMA leadership have yielded nothing hence the call for resignation.
“We have tried all means to meet with the leadership but no tangible results have come out. This is the reason we want COSOMA leadership to resign within 72 hours.
“If the leadership fails to resign within 72 hours, from Tuesday next will mobilise our members for demonstrations that vigils might follow at COSOMA offices in Lilongwe,” warns Chambo.
COSOMA leadership is yet to respond to the demands.
