Zomba, February 9, 2015: Member of Parliament for Zomba Central Constituency, Patricia Kainga Nangozo on Sunday donated assorted relief items to flood victims in the City.
The relief items, which included blankets, water guard, maize flour, soya meat, cooking salt and cooking benefited over 600 people in six wards namely: Sadzi, Likangala, Mbedza, Ntiya, Chinamwali and Thundu.
Speaking after the donation, Kainga Nangozo said World Vision Malawi provided the items on her request. She thanked the organization for the gesture.
Nangozo also noted that most business structures and houses in the city were of low standards, hence the need for City Council authorities to devise mechanisms that would improve the situation.
Zomba City Council Fire Officer who is also Desk Officer for Disaster Affairs, Lodius Sendaluzi applauded the legislator for the support, noting that reaching out to over 8738 people affected by floods needed concerted efforts from various stakeholders.
One of the victims at Matiya Primary School Camp, Memory Chikuma was thankful for the donation.
Chikuma also asked other well-wishers to assist them with mosquito nets and capital to re-start their businesses.
