LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-President Peter Mutharika has appointed former Speaker of Parliament, Richard Msowoya, as Head of Mission for the SADC Electoral Observer Mission (SEOM) to Tanzania.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, George Chaponda, has confirmed the development.
The appointment comes as Tanzania is scheduled to hold its general elections on 29th October 2025, during which citizens will elect the President, Members of the National Assembly, and Ward Councillors.
The SADC Electoral Observer Mission (SEOM) operates under the leadership of the Chairperson of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence, and Security Cooperation, whose current chairperson is President Mutharika.
The chairperson is further supported by the Organ Troika, which comprises the Chairperson of the Ministerial Committee of the Organ (MCO), the incoming and outgoing chairpersons, and two members of the SADC Electoral Advisory Council (SEAC).
