BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)—Malawi President Peter Mutharika has finally appointed commissioners for the country’s electoral body Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC).
The new team includes influential member of Mulhako wa Alhomwe Jean Mathanga, Rev. Clifford Baloyi, Mr. Moffat Banda, Ms. Elvey Mtafu, Ms. Mary Nkosi, Ms. Linda Kunje, Mr. Yahaya M’madi, Rev. Killion Mgawi.
Mtafu is the only old member who has made it into the new team.
The appointment comes after different quarters criticized the president for delaying in appointing the commissioners arguing quick appointment would help the new team to start preparing for the 2019 general election in good time.
However, the State House attributed the delay to late submission of possible names by the opposition parties.
