LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-President Peter Mutharika has dared the newly sworn-in National Intelligence Service (NIS) Director General Major General Blaise George Saenda to use all his powers to detect deceitful, fraudulent investors for the nation’s good.
Mutharika observed that detecting fraudulent individuals will save the country’s hard earned taxpayers money when are offered free services.
The Malawi leader was speaking at Kamuzu Palace in the capital Lilongwe after Saenda took office outh on Thursday, April 2, 2026.
Mutharika therefore urged to embrace his responsibilities with loyalty, integrity,and dedication while calling him to collaborate closely with other law enforcement agencies to safeguard the well-being of our country.
“This office you are taking aligns with the foundations of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and its manifesto. I will give NIS my full support to make sure that it effectively executes its role.
“In the past, intelligence services were regrettably and
today, intelligence has evolved into an indispensable
tool for economic growth,” he observes.
Mutharika adds, “The National Intelligence Service carries a critical mandate:not only to ensure the safety of all citizens, but also to protect our economy.
“This is especially vital as we defend our scarce resources from exploitation by some greedy individuals and also opportunists who disguise themselves as investors”.
The Malawi leader mocks Bridgin Foundation saga, “We recall instances when purported investors promised our nation an “early Christmas,”yet delivered nothing of substance.
“It is the duty of the NIS to detect and expose such deceit at the earliest opportunity”
Major General Saenda is a highly trained,experienced
and disciplined security expert who has recently attained national security remains very tight.
Saenda replace the embattled Duncan Ngwira whose leadership at NIS was characterised by frauds.
