LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-President Peter Mutharika’s government has reduced the number of Principal Secretaries from 80 to 38 in a move aimed at improving financial management and restoring sanity in the public service.
Chief Secretary to the Government, Justin Saidi, announced the development today, saying the restructuring is intended to promote efficiency and prudent use of public resources.
Saidi, says the public service must be staffed with officers who are well conversant with the responsibilities assigned to them.
Speaking during the orientation of Principal Secretaries in government ministries and departments in Lilongwe this morning, Saidi challenged the controlling officers to work towards rebuilding a civil service that truly serves the will and interests of Malawians.
Meanwhile, Secretary to the Treasury, Cliff Chiunda, says the government is implementing reforms aimed at stabilising the economy and is committed to adhering to the changes being introduced.
