President Peter Mutharika on Monday flew out of the country for Washington DC in United States of America where he is scheduled to deliver a keynote speech at the International Conservation Caucus Gala.
President Mutharika is attending the high profile summit as one of the special guest speakers at the invitation of US President Barack Obama.
Speaking before departure at Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) in Lilongwe, President Mutharika described the event as very crucial considering that Malawi is also striving to conserve its natural resources and the environment.
“It is a very important meeting that will draw together a number of leaders to discuss and share ideas on conservation. As a country we have been given the honour to deliver a keynote address at the meeting,” said Mutharika.
Apart from the conservation gala, President Mutharika also revealed that he is scheduled to hold discussions with various world leaders and officials on a wide range of issues affecting Malawi.
Among those leaders to have an audience with President Mutharika are Ms. Dana Hyde, Chief Executive of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), Mr. James C. Nicholas, Executive Partner for Global Business Resources USA and his team.
Prof Mutharika will also have an audience with professors from the Dayton University, OHIO, and the Chief Executive of Universal Leaf Company among others.
The annual Gala is the most important gathering of conservationists from the corporate, NGO, and government communities to promote U.S. leadership in the sound management of the world’s natural resources.
President Mutharika will join about 500 guests who include fellow heads of state, members of the U.S. Cabinet, world business leaders, American celebrities, and leaders from the international NGO community.
This cross-sectoral audience offers an unparalleled opportunity for special guest speakers to simultaneously address the largest bipartisan caucus on Capitol Hill, numerous high-level foreign delegations, and influential business and conservation leaders about the need for U.S. and international conservation engagement, cooperation, and action.
