Mutharika reaffirms Malawi’s strengthening bilateral ties with China

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-President Arthur Peter Mutharika has reaffirmed Malawi’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with the People’s Republic of China.

President Mutharika made the remarks during a meeting with the Chinese Ambassador to Malawi Lu Xu, who paid a courtesy visit to the President at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe.

During the meeting, Mutharika welcomed Ambassador Lu and expressed his gratitude for the goodwill message from President Xi Jinping, which included recognition of Malawi’s democratic progress.

​The President noted that Malawi continues to value its partnership with China, highlighting the steady progress achieved since the two nations established diplomatic relations in 2007.

He acknowledged China’s support in key sectors including; infrastructure, agriculture, health and education describing them as vital to Malawi’s socio-economic advancement.

​”I wish to express my appreciation for China’s support in scholarships and technical training. In this regard, Malawi proposes expanded collaboration in education, science, technology, and vocational skills,” the President said.

Following the meeting, Ambassador Lu Xu said the discussions focused on deepening bilateral ties and sharing ideas to enhance practical cooperation for the mutual benefit of both nations.
