Dear All
Due to your generous love, determination, support and burning desire to put Netball, Malawi and Africa on the map, I have been crowned the IWGA Athlete of the Year 2015.
I want, right away, to dedicate this Award to you reading this and ALL the people who have helped inspire, motivate and challenge me in my life along the way to get to where I am right now.
From the highlands and hills of Chitipa to the Valleys of Chikwawa and Nsanje; from the Shores of Nkhotakota to the plains of Mchinji, you all put in your hearts and love to vote for me so that the Malawian flag could fly high!
It has and will continue to fly high because of your votes. The Netball World, the entire sports fraternity in Malawi and Africa, those girls following my footsteps all over the world, are the winners.
To cut a long story short, YOU are the winners!
Just as common wisdom dictates that one single hand cannot clap, and one leg cannot – on its own – run, I too could never have done it all alone.
This is why, I am grateful to you all great people who have come this far, with me to Netball Players from all the teams that I have played in, including the Malawi Queens and Tactix (my current club) and more importantly, those that I have played against: thank you for being part of the game.
For all of the advice and wise words you’ve provided me over the last several years and all of the incredible strength you’ve forced me to see in myself. Because of you, I am today stronger and more capable to do anything I set my heart to my Mother, brothers (Ishmael, Jacob and John), sisters (Hlupi, Julliet, Priscilla and Rebecca), uncles, aunties, cousins, nephews, and nieces: thank you for being my foundation.
Thank you for being my rock when I needed it the most and for supporting me through every decision I made. But most of all, thank you for the sacrifices you all made to make my dream come true.
I am forever grateful for that.
To Maxine, all the Managers, Coaches and Trainers who have been instrumental in sharpening my skills and knowledge of the game, I dedicate this Award to you as the Crown of your work and investment! I love you all and cannot thank you enough.
To my extended family, the Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp community: While I do not respond to your comments as often as I would like, I want you to know that I wouldn’t have gotten to where I am today without your wonderful support and confidence in me.
You’ve provided me with a sense of strength and resilience that very few could ever carry as well as I have.
To the leadership in Malawi from the Executive – led by H.E. Arthur Peter Mutharikato the Legislature – Rt HonRichard Msowoya and the Leader of Opposition, Rt HonDr Lazarus Chakwera and the Minister of Sports – Hon Grace Chiumia; I thank you ALL for putting political differences aside to unite and rally behind this campaign.
