MZUZU (MaraviPost)—After being given some football lessons last weekend—losing 2-0 to Nyasa Big Bullets and another 2-0 to Tigers FC the following day; Mzuni FC has proved why it is difficult for them to lose points at its own backyard after beating resilient CIVO United FC 1-0 at Mzuzu Stadium on Saturday.Mzuni FC coach had a tough time to assemble the line-up in today’s match having seen regulars—Suzgo and Labson Chiyenda missing as they were serving yellow cards and experienced strikers Wacheta Mwenefumbo and Lughindiko Mushani also missing as they were nursing injuries and defender Bob Longwe who lost his mum yesterday.
However, the line up which saw some new faces was enough to stop the Lilongwe city giants from collecting any point at the Mzuzu Stadium.
The first half ended in a draw with both sides missing scoring opportunities.
Substitute Lazarous Deco Nyemera who came in for Smith Kadawasi in the second half proved to be the missing link as his well taken corner-kick immediately after he was introduced into the field of play saw captain Victor Gondwe heading in making it one nil.
Noting that CIVO United was coming hard to force a draw, Mzuni FC coach introduced ‘Wakale’ Russel Mwalfuriwa to control the pace of the game and boost morale of the team to hold on the fort until the full regulation time which saw the Green Intellectuals collecting maximum points.
Mzuni FC line up: Happy Msowoya, Tony Thindwa, Lughano Kayira, Timothy Silwimba, Victor Gondwe, Brave Phiri, Henry Misinjo, Hudson Milanzi, Smith Kadawasi, Frastone Chisi, Lackson Arteta Singano.
