MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-A 29-year old Boston Banda, is in police custody in Mzuzu for allegedly abducting and defiling a 12-year old girl.
Mzuzu police station deputy spokesperson Cecilia Mfune, said the suspect is alleged to have committed the offence between April 10 and 13, 2017, at Masasa area in the city.
Mfune said that it was reported that the girl was missing for three days. Her parents searched for her at her friends’ places where she usually frequents, but she was not there.
However, in the course of the search, neighbors informed the girl’s parents that they saw her with the suspect.
Accompanied by members of the community policing, the parents went to Banda’s house, where upon seeing them, the girl tried to escape using the back door.
“The matter was reported to Police and the suspect was arrested. The girl was taken to hospital where medical findings established that penetration occurred.
“Banda therefore remains in custody awaiting to appear before the court of law to answer charges of abduction and defilement, contrary to sections 136 and 138 of the penal code respectively,” Mfune said.
The suspect Banda hails from Kalungama Village, Traditional Authority (T.A) Mwanzama in Nkhotakota district.
