A 35 years old Pastor Charles Gonani of Thamanda Pentecostal Church in Masasa location in the City of Mzuzu is in police custody on suspicion that he has been impersonating as a Malawi Police Officer.According to our source, the suspect has been informing his members that he is a high rank Detective based at Mzuzu Police.
It has also been revealed that the man of God has been defrauding some job seekers by getting huge money from their pockets in the name of being a senior police officer.
“He has been getting money from job seekers saying he will be recruited in the police service. For instance, some were paying K25, 000,” said our source.
The suspect has been living with his wife Loveness Manda since May this year without being noticed.
“I knew him as a senior detective and he had all necessary equipments. And it is a surprise to me to hear that he was a fake,” said Manda.
Investigation to his arrest started when his church members went to Mzuzu Police Station for inquiry.
“After smelling fishy, we went to the police station to verify but surprisingly the police said there’s no a senior officer at the office with that name, it’s when they started with their investigation and then arrest him,” said some congregations.
However, Spokesperson for the northern police Peter Kalaya denied issuing a comment on the matter saying he was out of the office.
The suspect comes from Kadewere village in the area of traditional authority Lundu in Blantyre.
