LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi Netball Association (NAM) has asked Malawians to give moral support to the Malawi under 21 netball national team as they embark on the journey of the World Cup qualifiers.
Speaking on the team’s arrival in Pretoria, South Africa where the Netball World Youth cup 2025 qualifiers Africa tourney is taking place this year, NAM general Secretary Isaac Chimwala expressed the significance of the Malawians to support the youthful athletes saying this is the only way the girls can perform beyond expectations.
Chimwala also cited that there is no target set for the girls as that could have given them pressure a head of the tournament.
“Basically we have just told them that, they are our future and our foundation right now,we believe in them and we know they can do it.
“The team should not have pressure at all but go and play the games and win at the same time to enjoy the games. Most importantly, what we want is that they should rise the flag of their country even higher”, Chimwala.
The tournament is throwing off today at the Rembrandt Hall,University of Pretoria- South Africa and it will be competed by seven countries including the host, South Africa,Malawi, Zambia,Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Namibia and Kenya.
The junior Queens throws off their campaign against Namibia from 16:00hours today before playing Tanzania on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at 10:00hours.
Malawi will lock horns with South Africa on Wednesday 20th March before hosting neighbor, Zambia on Thursday, March 21, and finishes the playoffs against Zimbabwe on Friday, March 22, 2024.
