LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) held its elective general assembly in the capital Lilongwe, emphasizing the importance of voting on merit to ensure the future success of netball in the country.
In her opening speech, NAM President Vitumbiko Gubuduza urged members to prioritize the sport’s development by electing leaders who will drive positive change.
“Voting is crucial as it determines the future of netball in our country,” Gubuduza said. “I urge you to vote on merit, ensuring the right people take office and make meaningful contributions.
Let’s elect leaders who will prioritize ideas over personal benefits and foster servant leadership.”
Gubuduza’s call for merit-based leadership aligns with NAM’s efforts to develop a strong national netball team.
Recently, the association identified over 200 talented players through a scouting exercise, marking a significant step towards building a competitive team.
The exercise, supported by Nico Group of Companies, aimed to target girls aged 15-24 with a minimum height of 1.7 meters.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports has commended NAM for promoting good governance through its annual general meeting, where affiliate voices are heard and valued.
Ministry spokesperson Macmillan Mwale expressed enthusiasm about working with the new committee, saying, “We look forward to new office bearers who will take the sport forward by building on existing foundations for the country’s benefit.”
As NAM embarked on this leadership transition, the association’s efforts to develop netball in Malawi are commendable.
With continued investment and support, the national team can become a force to be reckoned with in international competitions.
The upcoming leadership will play a crucial role in shaping the sport’s future in Malawi.
