Norman Chisale urges political parties to uphold police respect and promote tolerance

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) youth leader Norman Chisale has urged political parties in Malawi to respect the police and actively support efforts aimed at promoting peace, love, and unity in the country.

Chisale made the appeal during the One Love One Malawi event held in Blantyre, a gathering focused on fostering national harmony ahead of the forthcoming elections.

He stressed the need for all political players to uphold law and order by working collaboratively with law enforcement agencies rather than undermining them.

Chisale also used the platform to encourage members of his own party, particularly the youth, to practice tolerance and unity among themselves.

He emphasized that internal harmony within political parties is just as crucial as broader national peace, especially during the heated atmosphere of an election year.

Meanwhile, Senior Chief Makata also weighed in on the need for political tolerance, warning that without mutual respect, the electoral process could be jeopardized.

He appealed to all political parties to accept the results of the elections once announced, in order to preserve peace and national cohesion.

As a sign of cross-generational interest in the peace initiative, former presidents Joyce Banda and Bakili Muluzi confirmed that they followed the event from their respective homes.

Although they were not physically present at the function, their remote engagement was seen as a symbolic endorsement of the One Love One Malawi campaign’s goals.

The event brought together various stakeholders who echoed the call for peaceful coexistence, responsible political conduct, and respect for institutions as Malawi heads toward another critical election season.
