
MZIMBA-(MaraviPost) – An agricultural extension worker in Malawi’s northern district of Mzimba was on Sunday, July 17 murdered for allegedly flirting with a married woman.The Northern Region Police deputy Spokesperson Maurice Chapola told The Maravi Post that the deceased, Lyson Patrick Kasunda who was working as an agricultural extension development officer (Aedo) met the fate when he was going to a meeting.
Chapola said that Charles Phiri, a husband to the woman hacked Kasunda in the head and back for suspicion that he was in a love affair with his wife.
Chapola said the suspect Phiri who is at large separated with the wife at some point over allegation that the deceased had an affair with his wife.
“The suspect left Malawi for South Africa. However, upon return from the rainbow nation into Mzimba, Phiri successfully reconciled with the wife. But, it was later discovered that Kasunda was still flirting with Phiris wife.
“This angered the suspect who revenged by hacking the deceased in the head and back when the later was going to a meeting.
“Postmortem conducted at Mzimba District Hospital revealed that the death was due to heavy lost of blood. The police are therefore in a man hunt to arrest Phiri who is at large to answer murder charges,” said Chapola.
The late Lyson Patrick Kasunda, 49, hailed from Kasakula village, Traditional Authority (T.A) Chilowoko in the central district of Ntchisi.
While the suspect Charles Phiri, 34, comes from Njo Makamo village, T.A M’mbelwa in Mzimba district.
