BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)—It never rains but it pours for former President Peter Mutharika’s security aide Norman Chisale as Malawi Police have pounced on him again barely minutes after the Lilongwe Chief Resident Magistrate Violet Chipawo granted him bail.
Chisale, who is accused of fraud and money laundering, appeared before the court today in the morning for bail application hearing and was ordered to give a K10 million cash bond and to also provide two non-cash surities of 50 million kwacha each.
He was also ordered to surrender his passport and appear to Police Headquarters in Area 30 on Tuesdays every fortnight.
But as he was about to flex his muscles in response to the good news from the Resident Magistrate, Police re-arrested Chisale on a charge of assault which took place in Blantyre.
State prosecutor told the court that Chisale will be taken in custody for that charge.
According to local media Chisale reacted furiously in court, saying: “It’s too much. I am a person too and I feel pain.”
Senior Resident Magistrate Violet Chipao said the issue introduced was not before her court and thefore would not comment.
There was tension as Chisale was refusing to be taken into custody.
