Officials in Ministry of Foreign Affairs accused of misappropriating trip allowances

By Burnett Munthali

Allegations have emerged that some officials in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs pocketed allowances meant for a 2021 trip to Kuwait and Ethiopia, despite the trip being postponed. The officials reportedly received these allowances but did not return the funds after the travel plans were canceled.

This situation has raised concerns about possible impunity within the ministry. The failure to refund the allowances suggests a misuse of funds and lack of accountability, undermining public trust in the integrity of government operations.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has yet to comment on the matter, and further investigation is needed to address the allegations and ensure that any misappropriated funds are recovered. The incident highlights the importance of strict financial oversight and transparency in managing government resources.
