Only God knows our future: The Case of Mutharika & Chilima

As a firm believer of God, I know that our destiny is predetermined by the Almighty God Himself even before we were born.

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” Jeremiah 1: 5.

When God says yes, it’s a clear YES and no amount of hatred by people towards you can make God change His mind on your destiny.  We read of the Biblical Joseph who defied the odds and become the Prime Minister of Egypt.  God is faithful and he keeps his promise.

“Know therefore that the LORD your God, He is God, the faithful God, who keeps His covenant and His lovingkindness to a thousandth generation with those who love Him and keep His commandments”— Deuteronomy 7:9

The Almighty God has the final say in our lives.

For if we are to be honest; the current President Peter Mutharika wouldn’t be where he is today if it was not for God’s intervention for it reached a point where the majority of Malawians hated anything of his Party; The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP). In fact most Malawians hated with passion, anything to do with Mutharika brand but how things turned around from being the loathed one by the majority to being the most loved one as evidenced by the results of the 20th May, 2014 tripartite election is what I call ‘pure miracle’ and a clear message to all and sundry that no one, repeat, no one can challenge God’s decision.

Now, let’s bring Vice President Saulos Chilima in the equation; Most Malawians can also testify that they did not expect Peter Mutharika to pick Saulos Chilima as his running-mate during the 20th May elections. The move came as a surprise to many Malawians.

To me, this means that no matter where one can be; but God’s plan on him shall still come to pass.

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” declares the LORD”—Isaiah 55 Vs 8.

He can change everyone’s situation regardless of what we people think about. This is why I always laugh at some misguided and myopic Malawians who up to now still hold to the belief that a person of some tribe (s) from some region (s) of this country region cannot ascend to the Presidency of this country. God does not operate like that!

Back to the issue before hand; let’s look at this Chilima picture: this was during his college days at Chancellor College in Zomba and as this picture can tell; he was a football player perhaps playing active football and yes, at this time, he was perhaps listening to advice from his coaches during pep talk while taking some water to cool himself.

By taking a deep reflection on this picture, one can be tempted to think that even  Chilima himself or his friends around him would not didn’t have a revelation whatsoever that he (Chilima) would one day become Vice President of the Republic of Malawi.

How he ascended to his current position is a miracle in itself. Such are the wonderful works of God. He can do anything so long as it has pleased him to do so. No one can question God’s decisions for He is righteous. He chose Mutharika and Chilima and no matter what we would say or do; we wouldn’t change this. As to which individual (s) He will choose for the office of the Presidency and Vice Presidency in future; we don’t know but one thing for sure is that His choice that time will come to pass and no matter what some will try; they will still be humbled with the God’s choice!

This is why I want to encourage those who erroneously think that God has forgotten them to be calm and indeed to wait upon the Lord. God will take you to your destiny and no matter the spanners your detractors will throw at you; you will still claim your destiny. Don’t lose hope; let this Chilima picture inspire us that God will do anything He said He will do for our lives.

Jeremiah 29 Vs 11 which says that “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” should give you confidence that not all is lost. God is always in control.

God has the final say in our lives. He can change our situations within a twinkle of an eye. “Is anything too difficult for the LORD? –Genesis 18 Vs 14.  Amen!
