Orlando Pirates clinch fourth consecutive MTN8 title

JOHANNESBURG-(MaraviPost)-Orlando Pirates continued their dominance in the MTN8 competition after claiming their fourth successive title with a 3-0 extra-time victory over Stellenbosch FC on Saturday evening at the Mbombela Stadium.

The Buccaneers were made to work hard for their win, as both sides failed to break the deadlock during regular time, with the match tied at 0-0 after 90 minutes.

Stellenbosch and Pirates created several chances but poor finishing and resilient defending kept the scoreline goalless, forcing the game into extra time.

Pirates came out firing in the first half of extra time and were immediately rewarded. Just two minutes into extra time, Oswin Appollis delivered a sublime pass to Tshepang Moremi, who calmly slotted the ball past the Stellenbosch goalkeeper to give Pirates a 1-0 lead.

The momentum stayed with the Buccaneers as Tshegofatso Mabasa doubled their advantage only a few minutes later effectively taking the game out of Stellenbosch’s reach.

In the 110th minute, Moremi struck again, completing his brace and sealing the victory for Pirates with a 3-0 scoreline.

This historic win marks Orlando Pirates’ 14th MTN8 title, further cementing their legacy as one of South Africa’s most successful clubs in the competition.

It was also a special moment for Abdeslam Ouaddou, who celebrated his first trophy since joining the Buccaneers in June.

Orlando Pirates have sent a strong message to their rivals that they remain a dominant force in South African football, especially in cup competitions.
