MANGOCHI-(MaraviPost)-The country’s quasi-religious grouping Public Affairs Committee (PAC) has urged President Lazarus Chakwera to be decisive in dealing with political violence.
The religious grouping fears that the vice has potential to affect the quality of the September 16 general elections.
PAC vice-chairperson Osman Karim made an appeal on Friday, May 30, 2025 during an interface meeting with Chakwera at Chikoko Bay State Lodge in Mangochi.
Kalim observed that while Chakwera has condemned acts of political violence, his sentiments need to be backed by action.
“We, therefore, welcome your condemnation of violence, but it should be backed by action.
“This is our message to all political players we will be engaging,” he said.
In his remarks, President Chakwera said: “Since I have already committed to the cause of peace as both the president of Malawi Congress Party [MCP] and the President of Malawi, motivated to do so by my constitutional duty, oath of office, and personal belief.
“You can be rest assured that I am the one candidate in this election you do not need to lobby to sign a peace declaration. You show me where to sign it and I will be the first to do so.”
Therefore has been spate of political violence recently ahead of September 16 polls
