PAC, NICE, CCJP up with election situation room for polls monitoring

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-A consortium comprising the National initiative for Civic Education ( NICE) Trust, Public affairs committee (PAC) Catholic commission for justice and peace (CCJP) and Technology and innovation hub, mHub have set up election situation room in Blantyre.

Chairperson of the consortium Boniface Chibwana told the news conference on Monday, June 22, 2020 that the situation room will track election incidents from all polling centres.

“In real time and provide intervention support, the situation room is at Mount soche hotel ( room 1)

“The intervention desk will comprise experts from Malawi police service, electoral commission officials and NGO gender coordination network and centre for multiparty democracy,” Chibwana says.

He further urged MEC to make sure that they are functional system for assisting voters in all polling centres.

The consortium chair person also call upon MEC to make sure that all measures put in place by the Ministry of health are adhered to amidst Covid 19 pandemic.

In his remarks, Vincent Kumwenda from Mhub and responsible for technical department in the room has indicated that they will also utilize citizen Journalists for Information.
