LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi Paralympic Committee (MPC) has asked the government through the Ministry of Education to consider including the I’mPOSSIBLE initiative into the country’s School curriculum to make it compulsory and help many people understand well.

The President of the body made the call on Sunday at Bingu National Stadium where the committee held the Para Sport against Stigma Knowledge Exchange forum for I’mPOSSIBLE.

The stakeholders included the Commonwealth Development Office, Global Disability Innovation Hub,Ministry of Education and Malawi National Council of Sports.

Among the areas tackled during the panel discussions included finding out the importance of I’mPOSSIBLE and why is it necessary to care, dilemmas, opportunities about I’mPOSSIBLE and what seed they might plant together today that could make the most difference to the future.

Chiutsi stated, “If the initiative is incorporated in the curriculum it will be easy for the teachers to tackle during the School hence widening the knowledge on the importance of the Para Sport. On our capacity, we have managed to train 400 teachers across the country which is a small number considering the total number of teachers we have in the country”

“We have established a Para Sport committee in 15 districts and conducted the I’mPOSSIBLE trainings in 25 districts. The initiative has helped us to identify athletes who have represented us on an international level. We have volunteers who have joined us through the initiative and we have also created strong partnerships with other organizations such as MACOHA,” he added.

Commonwealth Development Officer Anne McKinnon said broadcasting of all activities taken by the Malawi Paralympic Committee can greatly help the I’mPOSSIBLE initiative to grow fast.

Administration Manager in the Malawi National Council of Sports Henry Meleka hailed the Malawi Paralympic Committee for professionally running their affairs.

The Para Sport Against Stigma Knowledge Exchange forum for I’mPOSSIBLE was organized by MPC with financial support from; the International Paralympic Committee, Loughborough University London.

Para Sport against Stigma is delivered by Loughborough University London in partnership with the IPC and the University of Malawi. It is part of AT2030, a program founded by UK Aid led by GDI Hub.
