Paramount Lundu urges Chikwawa born citizens to give back to their communities

Chikwawa, February 5, 2016: Paramount Chief Lundu has called on all the people who were born in the Shire Valley district of Chikwawa but are staying in other districts to remember to give back and develop their district.

Paramount Lundu made the appeal Tuesday during a Station Executive Committee (SEC) meeting which was organized by Chikwawa Police Station at Hope Lodge.

During the meeting which was attended by various stakeholders including company representatives, it was discovered that Chikwawa district was facing a lot of challenges that included scarcity of decent houses, drought and lack of resources needed by community policing members among others.

Lundu said; “Chikwawa is blessed with fertile land, we have water flowing in the Shire River which if put to good use, we could develop. We have people from Chikwawa who went further with education, they are outside the district but that does not give them an exit for good.

“It’s my plea that these Chikwawa born citizens provide the communities where they come from with development projects so that we can move together in developing the district.”

He added that it was worrisome to note that most areas of the district lacked decent houses and that the situation makes people assigned to work in the district fail to operate from within instead they commute from Blantyre or other far surrounding areas.

“I don’t think it is proper that someone who has been assigned to work in the district should be travelling from Blantyre to Chikwawa that is one way of milking government resources. I want us to start thinking of how we can develop this district. We need these people to stay right here.

“Mind you, if they keep on commuting how would they think of developing the district?” wondered Lundu.

He said the message should not just be left out to those who come from Chikwawa but even those who went into the district to work.

“Some of you have been here for some time, while we appreciate that you also need to join hands with us so that we develop the district together.

“ Talk to us, we will give you land where you can construct various development projects. It is through that when we will minimize job problems in the district especially among the youth,” he added.

He further stated that if development was to come, it was through the oneness of the people as well as the spirit of wanting to develop which most people in the district must hold.
