Malawi’s parliament has launched a Tailored Legislative Drafting Training programme in Senga Bay, Salima, in partnership with the Chandler Institute of Justice (CIJ).
The training, facilitated by retired Justice Kamanga SC, aims to strengthen the technical capacity of legislative drafters and enhance the quality of legislation.
The programme brings together parliamentary staff and legal experts for hands-on sessions focused on improving the clarity, structure, and contextual responsiveness of legislation.
According to Clerk of Parliament Fiona Kalemba, the initiative intends to boost both drafting competencies and overall legislative performance, coming at a strategic time months before the next parliamentary elections.
This training is part of the CIJ’s broader efforts to promote effective legal and parliamentary systems across Africa.
By investing in the capacity of legislative drafters, Parliament is taking a significant step towards improving the quality of laws that govern the country.
The training programme is expected to have a positive impact on the legislative process, enabling Parliament to produce high-quality laws that meet the needs of the country.
