BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi National Football Team head coach Kalisto Pasuwa has named a 25-member squad ahead of the highly anticipated Four-Nations Tournament set for 28–31 March 2026 in Botswana.
The squad, unveiled on Tuesday at Chiwembe in Blantyre, reflects a strategic blend of experience and emerging talent as the Flames intensify preparations for upcoming international assignments.
Out of the 25 players selected, 17 are locally based while eight ply their trade abroad, underlining Pasuwa’s intention to strike a balance between homegrown consistency and international exposure.
Speaking to journalists during the announcement, Pasuwa emphasized that the tournament presents a valuable opportunity to assess his squad’s depth and readiness.
He noted that the competition will play a critical role in shaping his team ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
“This tournament gives us a platform to evaluate combinations, test character and measure our competitiveness at a higher level,” said Pasuwa.
The Flames coach also addressed the notable absence of in form midfielder Blessings Singini, clarifying that the player has been sidelined due to illness.
According to Pasuwa, Singini has been battling malaria for the past seven days, ruling him out of contention for the tournament despite his impressive domestic performances.
In a move that signals a long term vision, Pasuwa has included German based rising star Mwisho Mhango in the squad, for the first time.
Silver Strikers forward Festus Duwe has also earned a call up, as the coach looks to inject youthful energy into the team’s setup.
Malawi faces a stern test in the semifinals where they have been drawn against regional rivals Zambia on 28 March, 2026.
The winner of that encounter will progress to the final to face either hosts Botswana or Zimbabwe, who meet in the other semifinal clash.
