Aging is sometimes hard on us women for many reasons, namely our looks change, gravity gets a hold and won’t let go, and then we have to deal with societal issues like folk telling us what we should wear (at our age), what length our hair should be (for our age group), and when we should stop doing what we love, because “you are too old to be doing that”.
Then we have to deal with other stuff, like how men see and treat us. Somewhere it has been affirmed that the older a woman gets, the less valuable or sexy she is…hmmm…
It is also a given that as we get older, we have less of a chance at marriage. Those are statistics that we can’t change but perceptions that we don’t have to buy into. I’m not anyway. It is a real thing and that does make aging a little scary for some of us single folk.
And then there’s men. I’ve been told “men are visual” and they are always looking for what’s shiny and new.
Many men (especially men over 40 or 50) want a younger woman (so I’ve seen, read and been told) and to be honest, it’s a little disturbing but I’m not really mad at that, we all have to do what makes us feel good and helps maintain our happiness. I think it’s an ego thing and having someone young makes them feel “manly”? Or maybe like “they still got it”? Fellas you can explain that part.
But hey, no worries LOL! It is what it is. With all that being said, let me tell you what’s great about aging and being an all the way grown woman.
- No more worrying about what folk think about how we live our lives
- Willingness to change because we get it!
- Our conversation is elevated-we actually read and know some shit (some of us can hold it down in any conversation corporate, political and private
- We know how to take care of self and cater to our man.
- We have a voice-we say what we feel, ask questions, and speak from the heart, because we can.
- Wisdom-we’ve lived, loved, been hurt, raised kids, went to college, suffered losses, fallen down, picked ourselves up, and learned a few things along the way.
- No more babies. Let me repeat…no more babies. My children are grown!
- No menstrual cycles. I don’t even have to say that again. Bye boo!
- No nonsense in love-if “all in” love is what you seek and bring, “all in” love is what you will get.( We appreciate a good man). On the other hand, if games are what you bring, be ready to not only be called out and play a full hand, but be ready to be sent on your way.
- Fearless-we don’t have time to be afraid, time is of the essence. We go for it and we bring it!
Life’s too short to worry about so many things, so Fellas I challenge you to say what you see or do not see in a mature woman.
