Police in Ntchisi have arrested a 26-year-old man for allegedly operating a clinic without a licence.
The incident occurred on Thursday January 29 this year at Bumphula Trading Centre in Ntchisi where the suspect has been operating a clinic illegally.
Police have identified the suspect as Fillimon Phiri from Mangwalala Village in the area of Traditional Authority Wimbe in Kasungu. Police report indicate that on Thursday January 29 this year, officials from Medical Council of Malawi, Mr Richard Ndovie and Miss Edith Kungande as inspection officers, both from Medical Council of Malawi received information that the suspect was operating a clinic illegally and in accompany of Mr Fredson Mulewa who represented Ntchisi District Health Office approached Malomo Police Unit complaining that there is a person at Bumphula Trading Centre who is operating a clinic without a licence.
The Medical Council of Malawi in collaboration with the police visited the Trading Centre and found the suspect doing his usuall business.
The suspect was arrested on spot and assorted drugs and medical equipments were confiscated.
Some of the drugs confiscated are Paracetamol, Aspirin, Amoxylin, flagyl, cipro, multi vitamin, quinine, benzathen, sulphate, phenobitons just to mention afew and the suspect was also found with various syringes, surgical tablets and equipments, syrup injectibles, stethoscope, bp machine, gloves and many more hospital materials labbeled Malawi government all add up to 52 assorted medical drugs and equipments which the medical council of Malawi haven seized.
The suspect has since been charged with the offence of operating a clinic without a licence contrary to Medical Practitioners and Dentist Act NO 17 of 1987 Section 59 of Laws of Malawi.
