BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-As Malawi gears up for the September 16 general elections, the CCAP General Assembly is taking a proactive step to promote peace and stability in the country.
A special prayer session has been organized for presidential candidates, with the aim of praying for peace and calm during and after the elections.
The prayer session, scheduled to take place at St Andrews Church in Mzuzu, has already drawn interest from three presidential candidates: Dalitso Kabambe, Cassim Chilumpha, and Hardwick Kaliya.
Church leaders believe that prayer can play a crucial role in promoting peaceful coexistence among politicians and citizens alike.
In a statement, Reverend Mwawi Chilongozi, Secretary General for the General Assembly, emphasized the importance of peace and stability during the electoral period.
The church’s initiative is seen as a timely reminder of the need for politicians to prioritize the well-being of their citizens.
Some church leaders have expressed disappointment with politicians who shun prayers, with William Tembo, General Secretary for Livingstonia Synod, criticizing those who disregard spiritual guidance.
Vasco Kachipapa, General Secretary for Nkhoma Synod, noted that politicians need the support of peaceful citizens to win elections.
The prayer session is expected to bring together church leaders, presidential candidates, and citizens in a bid to promote peace and stability.
As the country heads towards the polls, the initiative serves as a reminder of the importance of peaceful elections and the role that spiritual leaders can play in promoting calm and stability.
