
Nicki Minaj’s father, Robert Maraj, 64, has been reportedly killed in hit-and-run accident in Mineola, Long Island.
Nassau County Police Department disclosed the news in a statement on Sunday, February 14.
A report by AFP revealed that Mr Maraj was struck by a hit-and-run driver on Friday at around 6.15pm on the road between Roslyn Road and Raff Avenue when taking a walk along the road.
He was pronounced dead on Saturday after taken to the hospital for treatment.
Police Said investigation is ongoing and they have asked any witnesses to the fatal crash to come forward with any information that will help to solve the case.
Ms. Minaj, 38, born Onika Tanya Maraj in Trinidad moved to the United States from Trinidad at a tender age.
Raised in US, the rapper had previously spoken about crack cocaine use and domestic violence towards her mother by her father during her childhood days including the time when he nearly burned down their house while the mother was still inside.
While a rep for Minaj confirmed the tragedy, the rapper is yet to make public statement about her father’s death.
Maraj’s death comes just over a year after his son Jelani Maraj, who is Minaj’s brother, was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison after being convicted for child rape.
