LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-President Lazarus Chakwera has officially collected his nomination papers to run for re-election under the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) banner.

This development comes as no surprise, given his previous declarations of intent to seek a second term in office.

Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) spokesperson Sangwani Mwafulirwa confirmed that Chakwera, along with two other candidates, Adil James Chilungo as an independent candidate and Kondwani Nankhumwa of the People’s Development Party, collected their nomination papers.

They join Milward Tobias, an independent candidate who was the first to collect his forms on June 11, 2025.

This brings the total number of presidential hopefuls who have collected nomination papers to four.

Chakwera’s decision to pay the MK10 million nomination fee to the MCP solidifies his commitment to contesting the presidency in the upcoming election.

Opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), UTM, People’s Part (PP), Alliance for Democracy (AFORD), United Democratic Front (UDF) leaders are yet to collect their presidential nomination papers.
