MZUZU-(MaraviPost)—United Democratic Front (UDF) diehards have called upon President Arthur Peter Mutharika to pick Atupere Muluzi as his running mate in the forthcoming fresh Presidential election slated for July 2, this year.
Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday, the UDF veteran members challenged Mutharika that he and Atupere are the only winning formula that Malawians are looking forward to voting for.
According to the Chairperson of the UDF veterans, Life Sanudi, if Mutharika does not consider picking Atupere Muluzi, the DPP/UDF electoral alliance will have a rough ride to victory.
“Choosing Atupere Muluzi as the running mate is the only winning formula because most people in the country are looking forward to seeing Atupere Muluzi as Mutharika’s running mate,” Said Sanudi.
While concurring with Sanudi, Deputy Organising Secretary for the grouping, John Kapito, said as old guards for UDF, they will stop at nothing but Mutharika and young Muluzi partnership.
Kapito said: “We are only appealing to President Arthur Peter Mutharika to put aside any DPP top officials who will choose to disturb his decision on the running mate. Otherwise, any mistake made on choosing Atupele Muluzi as a running mate will disappoint us more than ever before. We have fully endorsed the alliance but what we want is Atupere Muluzi to be Mutharika’s running mate.”
In March this year DPP and UDF signed an electoral alliance and since then most UDF members have been canvassing for Atupere Muluzi to be Mutharika’s running mate in the forthcoming fresh Presidential election scheduled to take place on July 2..
In his recent cabinet reshuffle, Mutharika roped in the politically pampered young Muluzi as a Minister of Mining and Energy.
