Raphael Kasambara

The Sentencing of Kasambara Will Be Applauded If There Is an Assurance That Culprits in The Ruling Party Will Also Face the Same Music {Seven Ministers}

August 22 has been set as the day Ralph Kasambara will know how long he will stay out of Malawi in Malawi. Though this is a case involving conspiracy to murder everyone know that the main cause of Paul Mphwiyo’s shooting was to do with Cash gate. There are people including the convict himself who were trying to cover up their evil deeds against the country.

However, as citizens we appreciate for justice coming up in the end. This was supposed to be the Genesis to a new Malawi of truth where abuse of power and state plunder was going to stop. Seeing a serving former minister going to serve jail sentence is a good sign for it will send a message to all serving now and forthcoming to know that state power is not for abuse and impunity.

KILLERS REMAIN AT LARGE: FINGERS POINT AT GOVT ON NJAUNJU’S DEATH

Courts of Malawi are the only institutions that can push the motion to all the people of the country from across all divides that Malawi as a country is bigger than any one man or woman. You can be the president, minister, member of parliament, councilor, judge or magistrate but as long as you go against the set rules and regulations called laws, your face, status or wealth will not save you.

AS KASAMBARA IS GETTING INTO JAIL THE KILLERS OF ISSA NJAUNJU MUST FOLLOW
Malawi political system has been of holaballoo for quite a long time now where the people sworn to uphold the law think that they are above the law.

We have observed many incidents where culprits have been shielded and protected under the umbrella of state power usually by presidents. this is not starting with Peter Mutharika or Bingu alone the preceding governments have done the same, making their popularity wane because of this type of deafening politicization of what was to be good governance.

Just as Paul Mphwiyo’s killers have been apprehended and we are heading towards closure. It is our appeal to the incumbent government to make sure and see to it that the killers of Njaunju are netted and face the wrath of the law. The reasons behind his killing must be established and the entire chain of evidence must be put to the public so that justice is served.

ROBERT CHASOWA AND 20 OTHER CITIZENS KILLED IN 2011 NEEDS CLOSURE TOO
Malawi has a wrong perception of trying to be a country that believes on the rule of law only to those who have come out of power or outside government.

For 52 years’ convicts have been coming from the side of the opposition and those that have left government. This is not justice but witch hunt and retribution. Justice must not look at political affiliation, allegiance or status. As long as laws are there it is each and every one who offends that must face justice.

Knowing that the killers of Robert Chasowa and 20 citizens were killed by supporters of and die-hards of DPP under Bingu Wa Mutharika and that the government is in the hands of the younger brother of the man that killed the citizens above, there is no hope that the perpetrators will be apprehended to face justice.

If in 2014, the Peoples Party under Joyce Banda had won elections by now the killers of Robert Chasowa and police officers who killed 20 citizens could be in prisons serving their sentences. You will see that all the faults that took place during the leadership of Joyce Banda will be corrected ruthlessly, the case of Ralph Kasambara, Osward Lutepo and the other guy who is alleged to have access to be in bed with his wife are few examples. These are the people whose crimes were committed during the presidency of Joyce Banda.

IT IS AMAZING THAT JUSTICE SYSTEM OF MALAWI ONLY TAKES PLACE AGAINST THOSE OUT OF POWER NOT THOSE IN POWER?
Malawi needs a complete reform in the mind set of those in power, the system they follow is of one party state and dictatorship. In multiparty dispensation there is no owner of government. The owner of the government in democratic era are the people.

The people do not change but governments do. This is why after MCP of Kamuzu Banda we have so far had four governments from three different party ideologies. Therefore, to take the government as your own property is wrong. Malawi must get initiated to this reality and stop harboring offenders who commits crimes and hide behind the ruling party.

For Malawi to do away with the notion of witch hunt; each and every offender as long as he/she has offended the existing laws of the country must face the wrath of the law without bias or favour. This is the only way we can create a stable and open society. We need to know that every sentence that is meted out of the feeling of witch hunt is liable for challenge hence Ralph Kasambara vying for appeal even before he is sentenced for he feels his case is based on witch hunt, vengeance and retribution.

We are amazed to note that the government in place under Peter Mutharika is serious to see that Cash Gate offenders from Peoples Party must be rooted out and face punitive sentences. The reasonable question comes here, are we after stopping corruption and cash gate in the country or we are stopping it only those from opposition parties? This question is coming taking in mind that Joyce Banda cash gate took place as from 2012 to 2013 involving unbiased reports of 30 billion.

Yet the very people who unearthed this system of Cash Gate reported that funds to the tune of 577 billion was stolen during the period from 2009 up to the time Bingu Wa Mutharika passed on. The administration of Peter Mutharika is focusing more on the small cash gate of 30 billion not touching or talking about the grand cash gate of his brother where he is involved too.

Malawi must learn that truth will always be truth even if the offender is our enemy or our friend. After tarnishing the image of Peoples Party and Joyce Banda as the worst thieves Malawi has ever had in her 52 years as a free nation, blasphemously new reports emerge that whatever Joyce Banda stole was change compared to what Bingu Wa Mutharika and his brother stole from the nation of Malawi.

Caught off guard Peter Mutharika is breathing chilly wherever he is because his war of witch hunt and vengeance has been revealed. Lack of sensibilities in his own ways of diverting the truth and attention he has embarked on a crusade that will bear no fruits because despite his rejections that the amount is not 577 billion but 236 billion still is too huge amount to be stolen from a country poor like Malawi.

Despite his despotic moves and autocratic arrogance over the grand cash gate still he and the seven cabinet ministers have been known while he is on the chair of the presidency. Which puts him on the awkward position because it will be very tough and not an easy task to silence the truth or divert the matter to anyone else.

Meaning the leadership of DPP administration will be mired by civil disobedience till 2019 for citizens will not be appreciative to be ruled by a thief and thieves.

ADVICE TO THE PRESIDENT TO MAKE MATTERS EASY AND BUILD CONFIDENCE
Since the trials and arrests have already began involving suspects of Cash gate, do not stop or shield the process. Let all offenders be netted and face justice, recover all the stolen money and where possible in the latter years the culprits will receive presidential pardons, which will include yourself.

That depends if the upcoming leader will be of a heart that embraces corruption. If everything goes against your wish for the sake of the country the best and honorable thing to do is to resign and let your deputy complete your term of office, this is being patriotic. Putting a country first before your individual interest is what is remaining at this point in time.

You will recall that demonstrations and protests taking place on a weekly basis and almost every day are as a result of peoples concerns and realization that their supposed to be guardian and protector is a betrayal to them.

Looking at the economic crisis at hand, too much debts their country is in, scarcity of services from water, electricity to medicine. Realizing that you are coming to hike prices of commodities and the punitive tax tariffs that include land, exercise books and others.

Mr. President no sane citizen trusts you anymore. Instead of you being on the crying side with the people you add luxury of yourself in expensive vehicles, diet, chartering planes on your personal businesses. You shun travelling commercial but you want citizens to eat rats and grasshoppers.

This is what is distancing you from the people. Your statements wherever you go are deploring and not amusing at all.

Malawi is looking for a leader who live with them, suffer with them, toil with them in times of hardships and be with them in times of goodies too.

You are far from that and you do not deserve a leadership worth to be listened to especially when citizens know that the problems that Malawians are in are manmade and that you are one of the problem.

In our last article we unequivocally said you cannot solve the problems of the country because you are part of the problem not part of the solution.

For you to be part of the solution to our current difficulties in Malawi you must declare that the 61 billion that your brother stole must immediately be brought back into the treasury, the money 577 billion that you and your minions stole will be returned into the treasury. When you do this we will know that you are part of the solution in Malawi.

However, in parting we call upon your government to speed up the releasing of the names of thieves in your cabinet and make them public, fire them, fire yourself if you are involved so that clean people must remain running and rebuilding the devastated nation.

Failure to bring to book the killers of Robert Chasowa, 20 citizens and Issa Njaunju will mark the sentencing of Ralph Kasambara witch hunt and retribution.
