Upon completion and delivery of Public Service Reform Commission report, Seodi White one of the 5 commissioners that was chaired by VP Saulos Chilima wrote on her popular facebook page the following:
Its been exactly six months since we started this work. Its been one of the most intense work I have ever undertaken. We consulted over 100 groups, read over 200 documents. We Put in 10 hour work days 5 days a week.
The one thing that became clear to us to is that there is a NATIONAL CONSENSUS that we can no longer operate as business as usual. We have to change as Malawians and as a country. Malawians told us over and over, that there is no turning back. They kept saying: Lets change our country for the better by creating a vibrant effective and efficient public service.
We were told by friends in Singapore and Kenya that Reform is NOT a one off event. That it evolves with time as lessons are learnt and it is done in stages. We have started now and there is no turning back. The train has left the station.
It will only stop to drop of passengers and pick up some. As Tata Nelson Mandela once said: “It Seems impossible until it is done”. I wish Malawians the courage to take this route forward.
Sometimes it will be easy; and sometimes it will be hard. But with a determined and courageous heart we can do it. We have no choice. This is the only country we have and we are the generation that time has chosen that we don’t sit pretty but that we roll up our sleeves and participate in changing the country for the better.
Its been a humble privilege to serve you these last Six Months my brothers and sisters.
