
MOGADISHU-(MaraviPost)-?At least eight people have died in a car bomb at an army base in the Somali capital Mogadishu on Saturday August 8, 2020.
Mohamed Abdirahman, a lieutenant in the Somali National Army confirmed the news.
Punch news report said the vehicle loaded with explosives targeted a compound near Somalia’s national stadium where the military base is located in Warta Nabada district in downtown Mogadishu where soldiers from the Somali National Army are stationed.
The country’s free ambulance service, Aamin Ambulance said eight people died on the scene and 14 others sustained various degrees of injuries.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility although the militant group Al-Shabaab has often conducted such attacks in the city.
Bombings and other terrorist attacks are common in Mogadishu although they recently declined in the last few months. Somalia has suffered continuous conflict for almost 30 years while fighting Al-Shabaab Islamic insurgents since 2008.
