Ranked cruiserweight Kevin Lerena survived helicopter crash during training flight.
The flight publicist Brian Mitchell confirmed the news in a statement on Saturday, January 30.
In his statement that was announced on his Facebook page, Mitchell said “We are all grateful for the protection of everyone in this helicopter this morning.
“By the Grace of God the Instructor & Kevin escaped with minor injuries. The crash will be investigated by the necessary authorities”.
According to the report by Aviation Safety Network, the helicopter was engaged in a training flight and in one of the simulated emergencies, the aircraft hit the ground and rolled before all rotorblades separated from the hub.
TimesLive reported that both Kevin Lerena and his instructor who were onboard at the time of the accident sustained minor injuries.
Lerena‚ who also volunteers as a paramedic‚ holds the marginal IBO cruiserweight title and he is set to fight in April in what is tantamount to an eliminator for the WBC’s newly created bridgerweight class.
The 28-year-old who has held the IBO cruiserweight title since 2017 was ranked the world’s fifth best active cruiserweight by The Ring magazine as of February 2020 and he is ranked No. 3 by the IBF and No. 2 by the WBA.
He is expected to face Bilal Laggoune from Belgium on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at Emperors Palace
