
Former IT manager for mobile network service provider Cell C, Mohamed Ismail Adamjee was arrested in relation to a R64-million fraud. South African Police Service confirmed the news in a statement.
According to TimesLive, the 44-year-old former executive was apprehended by the Hawks after an internal audit that was done at the cell phone company.
Prior to the arrest, the former Information Technology (IT) manager held the position for almost 10 years Reports indicates that he allegedly inflate invoices that resulted in loss of over R64 million at the mobile network during the period he worked for the company.
Ismail Adamjee was brought before Palm Ridge Commercial Crimes Court on Friday facing charges of fraud and corruption.
The case was however postponed pending further investigation and he is expected to appear before court again on 26 January for a bail application.
Commenting on the matter, the National Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, Lieutenant General Godfrey Lebeya has commended the team for the effort in bringing those involved in corruption to face justice.
