SRHR Alliance pushes for comprehensive sexuality education in Malawi

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) Alliance held a stakeholder meeting to improve communication and coordination on Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) and Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) efforts in the country.

Making his presentation during the meeting in LILONGWE,Malawi SRHR Alliance National Coordinator Hastings Saka said the meeting creates a vital platform for local civil society organizations (CSOs) and UN agencies to jointly assess progress on the implementation of in-school and out-of-school CSE programmes across Malawi.

According to Saka, the discussions will enable partners to identify priority advocacy issues and map out a coordinated advocacy plan that supports the delivery of quality CSE interventions.

He added that the gathering is expected to enhance coordination among CSOs, government departments, and development partners, ultimately promoting access to inclusive, gender-transformative, and youth-friendly CSE for adolescents and young people.

Stakeholders at the meeting expressed optimism that the collaborative approach will help close existing gaps in SRH information and services, ensuring that every young person in Malawi is equipped with accurate, comprehensive knowledge to make informed decisions about their health and wellbeing.

The Malawi SHRS Alliance with support from UNFPA is currently implementing the EmpowerED program aimed at strengthening CSE delivery and promotion safer learning environments for young people.
