Standard Bank Supports Malawi’s Constitutional Discourse with MK10m sponsorship

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-In line with its purpose to drive national growth, Standard Bank Plc has contributed MK10 million to support the country’s Constitutional Review Conference from May 26th to May 27, 2025 in Blantyre.

The two-day conference has been jointly organised by the Malawi Law Society and the University of Malawi.
Presenting the contribution, Head of Client Coverage Ewen Hiwa said Standard Bank’s sponsorship underscores its commitment to support initiatives that promote good governance, democracy, economic reform and national development.

“We are delighted to support the Malawi Law Society and UNIMA for their initiative to create a platform for dialogue on the Constitution in these critical moments. We believe that our contribution will help facilitate meaningful discussions and contribute to the country’s progress,” said Hiwa.

Hiwa said Standard Bank’s involvement in this initiative demonstrates its dedication to fostering a stable and prosperous environment for Malawians.

“As a market leader, Standard Bank Plc remains committed to elevating dialogue that promotes economic growth, social development, and good governance,” he added.

For his part, MLS President Davis Njobvu thanked Standard Bank for responding positively to the society’s appeal for support.

He noted that the financial package will support the conference’s operational costs, enabling participants to engage in constructive dialogue and providing recommendations for constitutional review.

The conference has attracted key stakeholders from the academia, government, civil society, political parties, ICT experts, and international partners.

It will aim to explore and reflect on the impact of the Malawi Constitution on the political, economic and social dynamics of the country.

While unpacking emerging challenges in constitutional interpretation and application for all relevant stakeholders.
