Sameer Suleiman faces libel charges

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Blantyre City South legislator Sammer Suleiman has informed Minister of Mining Ken Zikhale Ng’oma and Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Director of Youth Stevie Malondera that they will face each other in court over ongoing legal disputes.

In an interview with Maravi Post on Saturday, January 18, Suleiman described the lawsuits as attempts to secure campaign funds.

“They want money for their campaign, but it’s too late for them,” Suleiman asserted.

This statement comes in light of Zikhale demanding MK1.5 billion in defamation compensation, while Malondera is seeking MK300 million in damages.

The lawsuits comes after Suleiman on social media allegedly that Minister of Local Government Chimwendo Banda Malondera and Zikhale Ng’oma, asent individuals to assassinate him.

Suleiman claimed that Kenneth Ndovi legislator for Karonga Nyungwe tipped him that he was being followed by a white Toyota Prado vehicle while driving from Mzuzu towards the Mzimba turn-off.

Suleiman voluntarily turned himself in to the police after an arrest warrant was issued against him.

The court granted him bail under the condition that he pay a cash bond of MK500,000 and provide one traceable surety with a non-cash bond of MK2 million.

Additionally, Suleiman is required to report to the South West Region Police headquarters once a month.
