Super League of Malawi has softened Red Lions fines after the Super League of Malawi (SULOM) Appeals Committee held the Red Lions appeal on 23rd May 2015 on the decision by SULOM Disciplinary committee.
Red Lions were founf guilty of inciting violence during their game against Surestream in which one fan Geoffrey Mwale sustained injuries and eventually died on Friday.
Accordng to a verdict signed by SULOM Treasurer the panel examined reports submitted by the match referee, match commissioner, the police, stewards, Red lions, SULOM representative, verdict by Disciplinary Committee and the SULOM Rules and Regulations, Constitution and FIFA Disciplinary Code.
Having examined the reports and the rules, the Panel found that they were applicable to the matter at hand.
The Panel further examined the findings of the Disciplinary Committee and whether the teams were charged properly and the Panel noted that the charges were in order.
“Following the analysis of the verdict, the evidence, the Statutes of SULOM, SULOM Rules and Regulations as read with the FIFA Disciplinary Code, the Panel unanimously upholds the findings of the SULOM Disciplinary Committee in that the team, eight players and the team doctor were in the wrong,” reads the verdic in part.
The Appeals Committee Committee upholds the Disciplinary Committee decision with exception to the fines on the nine individuals should be K300,000 (Three Hundred Thousand Kwacha) per individual and not K350,000.
Following the appeal’s verdic Red Lions total fine to be paid by Red Lions is K3, 150,000 instead of the K3, 600,000 initially meted out by SULOM.
All the other fines and suspensions remain as determined by the Disciplinary Committee.
Ted Roka chaired the meeting in place of the SULOM Legal Adviser, Captain Gilbert Mitawa who recused himself due to conflict of interest with Red Lions being a military outfit.
