KINSHASA-(MaraviPost)-At least 40 people have been killed by suspected Islamist militants in northeastern Congo near the Ugandan border.

Rights group CEPADHO Omar Kavota confirmed this in a statement.

According to Kavota the Islamist group from the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) group, which was driven out of Uganda in the late 1990s killed the victims with machetes and looted food and valuables a day after killing at least 17 in the nearby village of Makutano.

A report by Reuters revealed that at least 400 people have been killed in attacks attributed to the ADF since the army began an offensive to oust the group from its bases last year.

Commenting on the matter, government administrator Rachel Tarwayo has disclosed that government is aware of the Samboko incursion and the area has seen a rise in deadly attacks in the last three weeks.

Meanwhile, government is channeling resource to help those who fled from their homes and others courage to stay for the moment with the necessary support they need.
