Meghan Markle’s 11th Publicist in 5 Years Leaves After 1 Year in the Job

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s chief publicist, Meredith Maines, is stepping down from her role after one year in the job.

Us Weekly can confirm that Maines will no longer work for the Sussexes in her role as .Chief Communications Officer (CCO), which she began in January. Maines worked in conjunction with US-based PR firm, Method Communications. The Sussexes have cut ties with the consultants after seven months.

“After a year of inspiring work with Prince Harry and Meghan, Duke and Duchess of Sussex and Archewell, I will be pursuing a new opportunity in 2026,” Maines said in a statement to Us. I have the utmost gratitude and respect for the couple and the team, and the good work they are doing in the world.”

A spokesman for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said: “Meredith Maines and Method Communications have concluded their work with Archewell. The Duke and Duchess are grateful for their contributions and wish them well.”

What Meghan Markle’s Friends, Colleagues Said About Her and Public Opinion

Meanwhile, a source praised Maines’ skills, exclusively telling Us on Friday, December 26  that Maines is “best in class.”

“Anyone who has worked with Meredith knows she’s best in class — she’s no nonsense, highly strategic and has done it all. They’ve accomplished a ton over the past year and it’s time for what’s next,” the source said.

In May, Forbes reported that Harry, 41, and Meghan, 44, added Method Communications to their communications team as they continued to grow their careers and community efforts.

“Chief Communications Officer Meredith Maines has retained the global firm Method Communications to bolster her team overseeing the growing business portfolio and philanthropic efforts of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex,” a spokesperson for the royals told the outlet at the time. “Method is an integrated PR and marketing agency specializing in high-growth tech and consumer brands. The Sussex team also recently welcomed Emily Robinson as Director of Communications. Method is serving as an extension of that team.”

Maines’ departure marks what is believed to be the 11th publicist to stop working for the couple in the past five years since Meghan and Harry stepped away from the British Royal Family in 2020.

Her exit comes after the couple’s director of communications, Emily Robinson, left her high-profile role after only a few months on the job in October.

“Ms. Robinson oversaw project-based work for a very successful season of With Love, Meghan and additional support for the production company,” a spokesperson for the Duchess of Sussex told Us Weekly in a statement on October 24. “She did an excellent job and completed these projects with great success.”

Robinson joined Meghan and husband Prince Harry’s team in June after a previous stint doing publicity for Netflix. The Times of London and People reported that Robinson left on her own accord.

Meghan Markle’s Email Signature: More Details About Her Workplace Emerge

In June, there was another staff shakeup when it was reported by multiple outlets that four team members had parted ways with the Sussexes.

Meghan has been accused in the past of being difficult to work for. The Times of London reported in 2021 that the Suits alum had allegedly bullied and reduced staff members to tears at Kensington Palace. In August 2024, NewsNation claimed Meghan and Harry had lost 18 employees between their time in the U.K. and the U.S. (they launched Archewell Foundation in 2020), with a source blaming an “unbearable” and “condescending” Meghan for the “churn and burn” rate.

However, several former and current staff members denied these reports. Speaking to Us in September 2024, former head of content Ben Browning, who secured the couple’s Harry & Meghan documentary Netflix prior to his exit in 2023, described his experience working for the couple as “positive and supportive.”

He added, “We all continue to be friends. The narratives we’ve seen suggesting the contrary are untrue.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Rename Archewell Foundation

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have rebranded their nonprofit organization, the Archewell Foundation, as the charity celebrates its fifth anniversary.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced on Friday, December 19, that the Archewell Foundation will become Archewell Philanthropies.

“Five years ago, The Archewell Foundation was born from a simple but profound belief: to show up and do good,” co-executive directors James Holt and Shauna Nep said in an impact report issued on Friday. “Today, as we mark our fifth anniversary, that mission remains as vital and urgent as ever — now carried forward through Archewell Philanthropies, a growing platform designed to deepen and expand how we serve communities around the world.”

They continued, “What began as a commitment to compassion has evolved into a powerful force for meaningful change, particularly in championing global mental wellness across our communities.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Charitable Work Throughout the Years

Harry, 41, and Meghan, 44, first set up the Archewell Foundation in 2020 after stepping down as working members of the U.K. royal family. Through the nonprofit, the couple aimed to continue the philanthropic work they undertook as working royals.

Over the years, the Archewell Foundation has supported programs and initiatives spanning digital safety, women’s leadership and education. In 2023, the foundation launched the Parents’ Network to support bereaved parents whose children have been affected by online harm, including on social media.

That same year, Archewell also launched The Welcome Project, a community-building initiative initially devised to support refugee women who had resettled from Afghanistan to the U.S. Since its launch, the Welcome Project has expanded to support refugee women from various countries around the world who have resettled in the U.S. and Canada.

Archewell’s name change marks Meghan’s second rebrand in 2025. In February, the former Suits star renamed her personal lifestyle brand from American Orchard Riviera to As Ever.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Business Deals Since Royal Exit

“The cat’s out of the bag,” Meghan said in an Instagram video ahead of the release of her Netflix lifestyle series, With Love, Meghan. “In two weeks, my show is coming out, which I’m so excited for. And also my business, which I think there has been a lot of curiosity about.”

“Last year, I had thought, ‘American Riviera, that sounds like such a great name.’ It’s my neighborhood; it’s a nickname for Santa Barbara, but it limited me to things that were just manufactured and grown in this area,” Meghan explained.

Meghan decided to change the company’s name when “Netflix came on, not just as my partner in the show, but as my partner in my business, which was huge. So I thought about it, and I’ve been waiting for a moment to share a name that I had secured in 2022, and this is the moment, and it’s called As Ever.”

“As Ever essentially means ‘as it’s always been,’ and if you’ve followed me since 2014 with The Tig [her former lifestyle blog], you know I’ve always loved cooking and crafting and gardening — this is what I do,” she continued. “And I haven’t been able to share it with you in the same way for the past few years, but now I can, so as things are starting to trickle out there, I wanted you to hear it from me first.”

As Ever launched its first product line in April, including a variety of herbal teas, raspberry jam, wildflower honey and flower sprinkles. The product line sold out in under one hour upon going live.

Meghan Markle’s Dad Thomas Says He Doesn’t ‘Want to Die Estranged’ From Her

Meghan Markle’s father, Thomas Markle, has expressed hope of reconciling with his estranged daughter in the wake of his recent leg amputation.

“Of course I want to speak to [Meghan] but I am not sure if these are the right circumstances,” Thomas, 81, told the Daily Mail in an interview published on Saturday, December 6. “I’ve always said I am open to reconciling with my daughter. I have never stopped loving her. I don’t want to die estranged from Meghan. I want to meet my grandkids. It might be nice to meet her husband too.”

Thomas said he was “confused” to hear that Meghan attempted to contact him. A spokesperson for the Duchess of Sussex confirmed to Us Weekly on Friday, December 5, that “she has reached out to her father” in the wake of his surgery.

Meghan’s rep subsequently clarified to the Daily Mail that she sent her father an email, though other members of his family told the publication that Thomas no longer uses the account that the duchess messaged.

Meghan Markle’s Family Guide: Meet the Duchess’ Parents and Siblings

Us Weekly has reached out to Meghan’s representative for clarification.

Thomas was hospitalized earlier this week in Cebu in the Philippines after a blood clot cut off circulation to his left leg and the limb turned black. Doctors ultimately had to remove Thomas’ leg as a life-saving measure.

In his latest interview, Thomas admitted that he was struggling to come to terms with the loss of his leg.

“They say you can feel a phantom limb when you lose a leg and I can feel it. I don’t know if I will be able to cope with this,” he explained. “I have always been a very independent man. I don’t like the idea of spending the rest of my life in a wheelchair.”

He went on, “I have been waking up in the middle of the night and worrying about it. I’m grateful to be alive. But living without a leg is a tough prospect. I’m worried.”

Thomas’ recovery is likely to take months, as he will need to be moved to a rehabilitation center once he’s out of intensive care. The duchess’ father will then have to learn to walk again.

“I’m grateful to still be alive,” he told the Daily Mail. “But I wanted to say a big thank you to the well-wishers and also to the fantastic medical staff. I really want to say ‘thank you’ to the people of the UK who have been so kind to me.”

He continued, “I’m an old man now but my life has been saved and I’m grateful for that. I have a long road ahead.”

His son, Thomas Markle Jr., broke the news on Friday that his father had undergone the life-changing medical procedure.

“My dad is being very brave. His foot turned blue and then black. It happened very quickly. I took him to a local hospital and they did some scans and an ultrasound and said the leg had to be amputated,” Thomas Jr., 59, told the Daily Mail. “There was no option. I was told the leg had to be removed and it was a case of life or death.”

His sister, Samantha Markle, expressed concern for her father’s future while speaking to the outlet, describing him as a “strong man” who has “been through so much.”

“I am praying that he is strong enough to survive this,” she said. “My father has been through two heart attacks, a stroke and an earthquake. I hope he can pull through this.”

Thomas Sr. has been estranged from Meghan since before her marriage to Prince Harry in 2018. The two had a falling out when Thomas Sr. admitted to staging photos of a suit fitting — though Samantha, 61, later told U.K. talk show Loose Women that she was “entirely the culprit” in setting up the photo opp in order to show her father in a positive light.

Everything Meghan Markle’s Dad, Half-Sister Have Said About Her

Speaking to the Mail on Sunday in May 2018, Thomas Sr. admitted he’d lied to Prince Harry about the paparazzi photo during a heated phone conversation where he allegedly hung up on the prince.

“Harry told me that I should never go to the press. That it would end in tears. He said, ‘They will eat you alive.’ He was right,” Thomas Sr. admitted.

Thomas Sr. ultimately missed Meghan and Harry’s wedding because he suffered two heart attacks. He had to learn to walk again after suffering a stroke in 2022 and, earlier this year, he was in the Philippines when a massive 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck. (Thomas Sr. told the Daily Mail that he moved to the Philippines to escape media coverage over his rift with the duchess.)

Prince Harry Jokes About Royal Family Drama: ‘Like Downton Abbey’

Prince Harry poked fun at drama within the royal family during a Christmas party speech.

The Duke of Sussex, 41, compared Britain’s aristocracy to the soapy period drama Downton Abbey in tongue-in-cheek fashion during an appearance at the British-American Business Council’s annual Christmas luncheon in Santa Monica, California, on Friday, December 5, according to People.

“People sometimes ask if growing up with the royal family was a bit like [show creator Julian Fellowes’] Downton Abbey,” he began. “Yeah, but only one of those worlds is filled with drama, intrigue, elaborate dinners [and] marriages to Americans — and the other is a TV show.”

The prince was humorously referencing his 2018 marriage to American actress Meghan Markle. The couple share two children: Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4.

Prince Harry’s Ups and Downs With the Royal Family Over the Years

He has also had his share of family drama, though he reportedly made peace with his father, King Charles III, during a U.K. visit in September. Us Weekly reported at the time that there was still “ongoing tension” between Harry and his brother, Prince William, due to the former’s “public disclosures, memoir revelations and interviews and criticisms of [William and wife Kate Middleton’s] roles.”

In his Christmas party speech, Harry offered another zinger about President Donald Trump’s immigration policy while discussing the 2026 World Cup, which the U.S. is cohosting with Canada and Mexico. The royal quipped that he was excited to meet some of the athletes from “across the pond” when they arrived stateside, provided they get “through customs” and “past ICE.”

Harry mentioned that his appearance for the British-American Business Council was his “first Christmas party” in “a while,” before speaking more seriously about what it has been like to move to the U.S. (Harry and Meghan, 44, moved their family from Frogmore Cottage in the U.K. to Canada in early 2020 after stepping down as working royals. They have since relocated to California.)

“For me, being British isn’t about where you physically stand, but what you stand for,” he added.

Speaking about celebrating the July 4 holiday, Harry joked: “It’s a new world to me, celebrating independence from Britain, and more specifically, independence from my great, great, great, great, great, great-grandfather.”

Harry has had a very busy week, as he made a cameo appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert in New York City on Wednesday, December 3. He crashed host Stephen Colbert’s monologue as the comedian made light of the trend of streaming royal-themed Christmas movies.

“Sorry, I genuinely thought this was the audition for The Gingerbread Prince Saves Christmas in Nebraska,” Harry teased as he walked on stage.

Colbert feigned surprise over Harry wanting to star in his own Christmas movie, though the comedian admitted that the title “sounds fantastic.”

“Well, you Americans are obsessed with Christmas movies and you’re obsessed with royalty, so why not?” Harry replied.

Later in the segment, Harry poked fun at President Trump when Colbert objected to his theory that America is “obsessed with royalty.”

“Really? I heard you elected a king,” Harry jokingly retorted, with Colbert conceding that the prince “has a point.”

Is the Royal Family Coming to America in 2026? Breaking Down the Rumors

Aside from Harry’s media appearances, he and Meghan had a challenging few days. Meghan’s brother, Thomas Markle Jr., confirmed to the Daily Mail on Friday that their father, Thomas Markle, had his left leg amputated below the knee after falling in the Philippines.

“There was no option given. It was either, ‘We have to operate now and remove the leg, or he may die.’ It was a life-threatening situation,” Thomas Jr. explained.

A spokesperson for the Duchess of Sussex later confirmed to Us that she got in touch with her father, 81, following his surgery.

“I can confirm she has reached out to her father,” her rep said on Friday.

“Oh, we see you! Not even Thanksgiving yet and you’ve already got this in the bag,” As Ever wrote in the Instagram caption.

As Ever officially unveiled its 2025 holiday collection on October 25 and promised its products were perfect for “giving and gathering, thoughtfully curated to elevate every occasion.”

The collection includes three-packs of Markle’s viral fruit spreads or $36, or in a signature gift box for $42.00. Both collections come with the same trio of fruit spreads: raspberry, orange marmalade and strawberry. (Individual fruit spread jars are also available for $12 while supplies last.)

Serena Williams Says As Ever Box From Meghan Markle Is the ‘Best Surprise’

We’ve Already Watched Meghan Markle’s Netflix Show: Everything We Learned

The Sussexes are also gearing up for the release of their upcoming Netflix special With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration, a spinoff of Meghan’s lifestyle series. Debuting December 3, the episode will invite viewers into Meghan and Harry’s Montecito, California, home to see how they commemorate the festive season.

“This December, join Meghan in Montecito for a magical holiday celebration,” their production company Archewell Productions announced. “Together, friends and family deck the halls, create holiday feasts, craft heartfelt gifts, and share lots of laughs — with simple how-tos to follow at home. It’s a holiday wonder with warmth, tradition, and a generous dose of joy.”

Meanwhile, Meghan and Harry’s sister-in-law Princess Kate Middleton announced some of her own holiday plans earlier this week. Kate will host celebrities and special guests at the historic Westminster Abbey on December 5 for her Together at Christmas carol service. Kate Winslet, Hannah Waddingham, Dan Smith and Chiwetel Ejiofor are set to join Kate and her husband, Prince William, to deliver festive readings at the fifth annual event, where the princess will also deliver a speech on the theme of “The Power of Love and Togetherness.”

“This year, the Service will bring people together to celebrate love in all its forms — whether it’s love within families, through friendships, across communities or even through powerful moments of connection with strangers. In a world that can often feel fragmented and disconnected, love is the force that reconnects us all – spanning generations, communities, cultures and faiths,” a statement read.

Meghan and her husband Prince Harry were most recently spotted at two separate high-profile L.A. events on November 8. The Sussexes supported their friend Serena Williams at the Baby2Baby Gala in West Hollywood, where the tennis star was given the Giving Tree Award “for her fierce commitment to uplifting children and families and her powerful advocacy for maternal health,” per the organization.

Meghan and Harry, 41, also joined A-listers such as Justin Bieber, Mariah Carey, Kyle Richards, Kathy Hilton and Gayle King by making an appearance at Kris Jenner’s James Bond-themed 70th birthday party. Jenner and her daughter Kim Kardashian originally shared photos with Meghan on Instagram, but any trace of those pictures were later removed from the family’s social media.

Royal expert Tom Sykes later reported that Harry and Meghan had reportedly checked “no” on a photo consent form they received before the party, and thus apparently did not want any pictures taken of them to be shared.

The royal expert clarified that Harry and Meghan were not “particularly bothered” by the pictures ending up on social media, though the Jenner-Kardashian family still took them down out of respect.

UK’s royal rumble; Heartbreaking reason behind Queen’s decision to not visit Philip in hospital

LONDON-(MaraviPost)-The Duke of Edinburgh was not seen by senior royals during his four-day stay at the King Edward VII hospital in London after his admission for a “pre-existing condition”

Prince Philip has left hospital in time for Christmas

Prince Philip has left hospital in time for Christmas

Prince Philip will finally be allowed to spend Christmas with his family after being discharged from hospital earlier today .

The Duke of Edinburgh, 98, spent four nights at the the King Edward VII hospital in London after he was admitted on Friday due to a “pre-existing condition”.

He will now head back to Sandringham to spend Christmas with his wife, Queen Elizabeth.

Observers will have noted that the Queen and other senior royals did not visit him during his stay, due in part to a long-standing protocol.

Royal expert Victoria Arbiter explained that such visits are regarded as disruptive and cause undue stress for patients undergoing treatment.

She also said that this approach shows ‘sensible’ thinking on behalf of the royal family.

The Duke was shown to the front seat of a car before being driven away

The Duke was shown to the front seat of a car before being driven away

She wrote: “After seeing some pretty horrid comments about the Queen being at Sandringham while Philip is in hospital I’d like to TRY to add a little perspective.

“Generally royals don’t visit each other in hospital.

“There are always exceptions but sensible thinking is at the core not a lack of sensitivity.

“Were the Queen to visit him the security requirements alone would be incredibly disruptive.

The Queen arrived in Sandringham on Friday

“Conscious of other patients undergoing treatment they don’t want to cause undue stress for them or their families.

“Not only are they very private when it comes to medical issues they also want to avoid further speculation.

“Philip of all of the royals abhors any kind of fuss and he would want the Queen to continue as normal for the rest of the family – children, grandchildren.”

Although royals have visited each other in hospital before, Victoria stresses that this is “not the norm” and the decision is made with consideration of the public in mind.

She said: “It’s all about the regular members of the public that would be affected.

“That to me suggests an awareness and lack of selfishness as opposed to the ugliness that’s being touted.

“Every royal decision is made because it’s ‘sensible’. Nothing more nothing less.

“Philip is pretty set in his ways and the Queen above anyone will be keen to respect his wishes. I hope royal watching proves to be a little less contentious on 2020.

“They’re not horrible people but rather a family whose every move is analyzed and criticized.

“Perhaps a little empathy would be nicer than throwing stones…especially at Christmastime.”
