Half-Naked Woman Arrested in California for Stealing Semi-Truck and Trailer

A half-naked woman was arrested last week in California after police claim she allegedly stole a Sysco semi-truck and its trailer right from under its driver.

Makayla Ballewansiel, 28, was said to be bottomless on Wednesday, January 14, when cops claim she hopped into a big rig that had been parked outside a Tru By Hilton hotel in Manteca.

The truck’s driver, according to police, was making a food delivery to the hotel at the time of the alleged vehicle theft.

According to Manteca Police, the truck’s engine had been switched off, and the driver of the truck had the key with him in his pocket. However, once inside, Ballewansiel allegedly rummaged through a bag she found in his truck and unearthed a spare key to the semi.

The driver told police he was still in the truck’s trailer, loading up food onto a dolly, when it started to lurch forward. The driver told police that he jumped from the trailer, and in the process sustained minor, unspecified injuries, police have claimed.

The driver could do nothing but watch his semi-truck and trailer grow smaller as it traveled further away. He did have his phone and called 911 to report the vehicle’s theft. Within minutes, officers were able to track down the semi-truck and trailer as it was headed southbound on Highway 99 near the Main Street Ripon exit, police said.

According to investigators, Ballewansiel decided to stop the truck in the middle of the roadway and then jumped out. She allegedly ignored commands from police to stop and started taking off. She didn’t get far though. As she was running from the scene, a K9 was dispatched to catch her. And catch her, it did.

Ballewansiel was wearing a shirt at the time of her arrest but no pants or underwear. She allegedly sustained bite marks to her buttocks after the dog latched on to take her down. Police said that she also defecated at the scene.

It was unclear where Ballewansiel lives, but police noted she had an outstanding arrest warrant for burglary and auto theft out of Fresno County. The warrant was issued on November 6, police said.

“This highlights the problem of repeat offenders committing more crimes due to being released” and not held in custody, the police expressed in a statement. “This could have resulted in a dangerous ending had she tried to flee in that semi-truck and trailer that ranges in weight between 35,000 pounds (unloaded) and the federal limit of 80,000 (loaded).”

Olympic Hopeful Stabbed Paralyzed Uber Driver 60 Times, Claims Self Defense

It was unclear why she was half-dressed. Attempts to reach her via phone and social media on Tuesday, January 20, were fruitless.

Ballewansiel was charged with felony vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, obstruction of a public officer, and burglary. It was unclear Tuesday if she had entered pleas to the charges or had an attorney who could comment for her.

The Manteca Police Department requests that any witnesses to the theft who were not already interviewed by police call the Manteca Police Department at (209) 456-8101. Reference case number 26-00225 when you call.

Who Was Victoria Jones? Tommy Lee Jones’ Daughter Found Dead at Age 34

Tommy Lee Jones’ late daughter, Victoria Jones, was found dead at age 34 on New Year’s Day in January 2026.

A spokesperson for the San Francisco Fire Department confirmed to Us Weekly on January 1, 2026, that paramedics were called to the Fairmont San Francisco hotel for a “report of a medical emergency” early on New Year’s Day and ultimately pronounced Victoria dead at the scene. A spokesperson for the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office told Us on January 2, 2026, that Victoria had been “identified” as the deceased.

Victoria worked as an actress in her Oscar-winning father’s movies when she was a teenager, before going on to appear briefly in hit teen drama One Tree Hill.

The New York Post reported that Victoria had several run-ins with the law in the final months of her life, including pleading not guilty to charges of obstructing a peace officer and possession of a narcotic controlled substance, among other accusations, in April 2025.

Keep scrolling for more information about Victoria’s background and her 2026 death below.

Who Was Victoria Jones?

Victoria Jones was acclaimed actor Tommy Lee Jones’ youngest child with his ex-wife Kimberlea Cloughley. Her older brother, Austin Leonard Jones, was born on November 9, 1982, and Victoria arrived on September 3, 1991. (Tommy and Cloughley were married from 1981 to 1996. He was previously with his first wife, Katherine Lardner, from 1971 to 1978 and has been married to his third wife, Dawn Laurel, since 2001.)

Speaking to The New Yorker in 2008, Tommy offered some insight on Victoria’s childhood. The actor built a state-of-the-art equestrian facility across 74 acres near Buenos Aires since Victoria and Austin shared his love of equestrian sports.

“We’ve built a world-class polo field and a practice field there, so my team and the kids’ teams can play,” he explained. “My daughter has been playing polo since she was 6, and now she’s entirely fearless. She sometimes plays six chukkers.”

In polo, a chukker indicates a round, or timed period of play in a game. A standard polo match has between four and eight chukkers.

Who Did Victoria Jones Play in ‘Men in Black 2’?

Victoria Jones made her big screen debut with a small role in her father Tommy Lee Jones’ blockbuster Men in Black II, which made more than $441.8 million worldwide in 2002. The budding actress played Neuralyzed Daughter.

Who Did Victoria Jones Play in ‘One Tree Hill’?

Three years after her screen acting debut in Men in Black II, Victoria featured in the teen drama One Tree Hill. She made an extended cameo in the season 3 episode “Locked Hearts and Hand Grenades” in 2005, portraying a high school cheerleader.

Why Did Tommy Lee Jones Once Fire Victoria From a Movie?

Tommy Lee Jones cast his daughter in more substantial roles when she was a teenager. Victoria Jones played a young Mexican immigrant in 2005’s The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada, which was inspired by the real-life killing of a teenager, Esequiel Hernandez Jr., by U.S. Marines in an anti-drug operation near the United States/Mexico border in May 1997.

Tommy revealed to The New Yorker in September 2008 that he briefly fired Victoria from The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada for lateness before the crew eventually convinced him to hire her back. (Tommy directed and starred in Three Burials, which won him a Best Actor Award at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2005.)

“She’s a good actress, has her SAG card, speaks impeccable Spanish,” Jones explained. “When she was a baby, I told Leticia, her nurse, to speak to her in Spanish. But I fired my daughter. She had to get up at 5 a.m. for her part. One morning, she wouldn’t get out of bed. I said, ‘Honey, this is work.’ But she wouldn’t budge. So I fired her.”

The actor went on, “Then, without telling me, the production staff went over and woke her and rushed her out to the set just in time.”

Victoria later had a cameo in the 2014 Western drama The Homesman, which her father cowrote and directed.

Did Victoria Jones Have Run-Ins With the Law?

The New York Post reported that Victoria Jones had multiple run-ins with the law, dating back to 2011. That year, Victoria was arrested for theft of an amount between $50 to $500 in San Antonio, Texas, though the case was later dismissed.

More recently, Victoria pleaded not guilty to charges of obstructing a peace officer, using or being under the influence of a controlled substance and possession of a narcotic controlled substance in Napa Valley, California, in April 2025.

Two months later, Victoria once again entered a not guilty plea to charges of domestic battery and domestic violence/elder abuse in Napa Valley in June 2025. Both California cases were reportedly ongoing at the time of her death.

When Did Victoria Jones Die?

A spokesperson for the San Francisco Fire Department (SFFD) confirmed to Us Weekly on January 1, 2026, that it was called to the luxury Fairmont San Francisco hotel at 2:52 a.m. PT for “a report of a medical emergency.”

“Upon arrival, paramedics from the fire department performed an assessment. The person was declared deceased,” the SFFD statement to Us read. “SFPD and the medical examiner’s office were called to the scene. Scene turned over to SFPD and SF Medical Examiners.”

TMZ reported that after the SFFD arrived at around 3:14 a.m. PT. A medical examiner arrived on the scene shortly thereafter to conduct a formal investigation.

A representative of the San Francisco Chief Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed to Us on January 2, 2006, that Victoria had been identified as the deceased.

“The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) has identified the decedent as Victoria Jones, 34,” the office said. “Her legal next of kin have been notified. The OCME has no additional information to share or comment at this time.”

How Did Victoria Jones Die?

An investigation into Victoria Jones’ death remains ongoing, as of publication, though it’s suspected that she suffered an overdose. NBC Bay Area reported on January 1, 2026, that “no foul play” was suspected.

Emergency dispatch audio obtained by TMZ confirmed that police officers had received a call for a “code 3 for the overdose, color change” shortly before Victoria was found unconscious. Upon arrival at the San Francisco hotel, paramedics pronounced Victoria dead at the scene.

7 Must-Watch Prime Video Sports Documentaries on Right Now (November 2025)

Sports documentaries are nothing new on Amazon Prime Video, but the streamer has been getting a lot more of these.

Prime Video may not have as robust a selection of sports documentaries as its streaming rivals, but it does feature some of the biggest names in sports in their own documentaries.

This month, NFL running back Saquon Barkley and NBA legend Allen Iverson are both featured in fresh Prime Video documentaries.

You can find both of those docs among Watch With Us‘ picks for the must-watch Prime Video sports documentaries right now.

8 Must-Watch Netflix Sports Documentaries on Right Now (November 2025)

‘Saquon’ (2025)

If you’ve ever seen the incredible footage of the Philadelphia Eagles player jumping over another player while facing the other way, that was running back Saquon Barkley. He’s made a name for himself in the NFL as one of the best in the game. But there was a time when it looked like his career was over.

Barkley tore his ACL five years ago, and his recovery was a real question mark. Saquon is essentially Barkley’s video diary during one of the most tumultuous times in his life as he left the New York Giants and found the glory he was looking for as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles. And if you thought that his story couldn’t get any more extraordinary, the documentary even covers Barkley’s appearance in the 2025 Super Bowl, which happened to take place on his birthday.

Saquon is streaming on Prime Video.

‘Allen Iverson’ (2025)

During his playing days, Allen Iverson was unquestionably one of the best players in the NBA. He had a natural talent for basketball that few could match. But despite winning glory on the basketball court, Iverson suffered off the court, including a conviction for fighting that could have seen him spend five years behind bars, with his sentence was overturned.

The Best Basketball Movies and TV Shows to Watch in Between March Madness

The Allen Iverson documentary series gives its subject the time to reflect on his life and his impact on the game. Iverson may not have won an NBA championship, but he left a very big impact on the culture of the game.

Allen Iverson is streaming on Prime Video.

‘Bye Bye Barry’ (2023)

During his NFL career, Detroit Lions running back Barry Sanders was one of the best players in the game. Records seemed poised to fall as he consistently turned in outstanding numbers. At least until 1998, when Sanders abruptly retired without fanfare, and just before he would have hit big milestones.

Bye Bye Barry is a biographical documentary that lets Sanders fully explain where he was coming from when he made that decision. At the time, football fans in Detroit were less than forgiving about Sanders’ choices. But over time, his legacy has been secured.

‘Game 7: Cubs vs. Indians 2016’ (2025)

Game 7 is a loose connection of standalone films chronicling some of the most memorable playoff series in the history of baseball, hockey and basketball. All three of those sports use a playoff structure that can end in a decisive winner-takes-all game 7.

Cubs vs. Indians 2016 stands out from the rest as one of the greatest MLB playoff games in history. The contest had enough drama for a Hollywood movie, as it began with a home run and ended with a rain delay before heading into a decisive 10th inning. Going into the game, neither the Chicago Cubs nor the Cleveland Indians had won a World Series title in decades. By the end, one of those long losing streaks was broken.

Game 7: Cubs vs. Indians 2016 is streaming on Prime Video.

‘One Man and His Shoes’ (2021)

Marketing endorsements have become a major part of sports in the last five decades, but none could match the meteoric rise depicted in One Man and His Shoes. Even now, we scarcely have to tell you that the one man is Michael Jordan, or that his Air Jordan shoes redefined sneakers for decades.

This could have just been a documentary about Nike blowing its own horn and enjoying its good fortune. Except this film wasn’t made with Nike’s participation, and it goes to some places that the shoemaker would probably like to forget. The company created such a demand for these shoes that some people have been killed for them. Getting robbed for a pair of Air Jordan shoes is a problem that persisted for decades, and some of the victims’ families get a chance to speak about that in this film.

‘Hugo Sánchez, the Goal and the Glory’ (2022)

Hugo Sánchez, the Goal and the Glory is a Spanish language documentary that explores the career of Hugo Sánchez, one of the greatest soccer players to emerge from Mexico, who is also widely considered to be among the best who ever played international football.

The documentary touches on most of the stops during Sanchez’s 20-plus years as a professional, including his stint with the prestigious Real Madrid team, where he cemented his reputation with a high number of goals each season.

‘The Identity Theft of Mitch Mustain’ (2015)

The title of The Identity Theft of Mitch Mustain is a bit misleading, since there isn’t any actual identity theft in it. Director Matthew Wolfe apparently chose it as a cheeky title while sharing the story of former college football quarterback Mitch Mustain.

6 Must-Watch Drama Movies on Prime Video (November 2025): ‘The Iron Claw’ and More

At one point, Mustain was ranked the No. 1 high school quarterback in America, and he went undefeated during his initial college stop at Arkansas. But once Mustain transferred to USC, he never regained the same form or success he had earlier. This isn’t a story about a fall from grace, but it is an exploration of what can happen when the gulf between a player’s dreams and his reality is too far to bridge.

Senegal’s fishing crisis: Overfishing, migration, survival

Overfishing by foreign vessels is decimating fish stocks in the West African country of Senegal, which is in turn fueling migration to Spain, according to a report released Tuesday. The Environmental Justice Foundation, a London-based group specializing in environmental and human rights issues, said illegal overfishing and destructive practices by foreign vessels are responsible for increased irregular migration to Spain. It based its conclusions on interviews with fishermen in Spain and Senegal and its prior research on foreign overfishing.

The group found that 57% of fish stocks in Senegal are in a “state of collapse,” with foreign vessels playing a significant role in declining numbers. Its analysis showed 43.7% of licensed vessels in Senegal are foreign-controlled, predominantly of Spanish and Chinese origin. As fish populations dwindle, local fishermen are facing income loss, and many have turned to migration as a last resort. Fishing is an important economic sector in Senegal that employs 3% of the workforce.

Irregular migration to the Canary Islands almost doubled in 2024, according to the Spanish Interior Ministry, reaching 46,843. While exact figures aren’t known due to a lack of information on departures from West Africa, Senegal is one of the top three nationalities of arrivals to the Spanish islands. The Atlantic route from West Africa to the Canary Islands is one of the deadliest in the world. The Spanish migrant rights group Walking Borders estimates the victims were in the thousands last year. Migrants and former fishermen in the Canary Islands told the Environmental Justice Foundation that the treacherous journey to Spain was a last resort, a way to provide for families when fishing in Senegal could no longer put food on the table. “If I was able to gain enough money in fishing, I would never have come to Europe,” said Memedou Racine Seck.

Local activists in Senegal have voiced their frustration with foreign overfishing and its contribution to the migration crisis. Karim Sall, President of AGIRE, a Senegalese organization operating in the Joal-Fadiouth marine protected area, condemned foreign nations for their role in the crisis. “I get so angry when (foreign nations) complain about immigration because they are the real pirates and what they did is worse than clandestine immigration. It’s theft, plundering our resources to feed their own inhabitants while we suffer,” said Sall. Industrial foreign fleets, many of which use bottom trawling techniques, are exacerbating the crisis. These vessels drag heavy nets across the seafloor, indiscriminately catching young fish and destroying marine ecosystems like seagrass and coral reefs, which are vital for fish reproduction. As a result, fish stocks are unable to recover, deepening the hardships of local fishing communities and eaters.

Fish plays an important role in food security in Senegal, especially for protein consumption. Due to declining fish stocks, consumption per capita in Senegal has fallen from 29 kilograms per year to 17.8 kilograms per person. The report also pointed to a lack of transparency in fishing licenses and inadequate government management of fisheries as contributing factors. Despite efforts by the Senegalese government to address the crisis, experts warn that without stricter regulations on industrial foreign fleets, the situation will worsen. Migrant and former fisherman Souleymane Sady, who arrived in the Canary Islands in 2020, summed up the situation fishermen in Senegal face: “Since the government cannot regulate the boats and we cannot work normally, we choose to run away from the country to come for stability,” he said.

US to cut $50 million health aid to Zambia because of medicine theft

The United States said on Thursday that it will cut $50 million in annual aid to Zambia because of what it described as the “systemic theft” of donated drugs and medical supplies.

Washington’s ambassador to the country, Michael Gonzales, said the “difficult” decision comes after repeated warnings to the government to safeguard the vital medicines.

These included life-saving drugs to treat malaria, HIV, and tuberculosis.

He said the US discovered in 2021 that medicine and medical supplies that were meant to be provided free to Zambians were being taken and sold by pharmacies across country.

An investigation of around 2,000 pharmacies in Zambia between 2021 and 2023 found that nearly half of them were selling medicines and products paid for by US aid funds.

Gonzales said the Zambian government failed to do enough to address the corruption after being informed of the theft scandal last year.

He said the US was no longer willing to “underwrite the personal enrichment of fraudsters” with American taxpayers money.

The embassy in Zambia said it accounts for about a third of public health spending in the country.

There was no immediate comment on Thursday from the Zambian government.

The cuts are separate from a broader review of foreign aid spend by President Donald Trump’s administration.

Gonzales said he had recommended that the US start cutting the aid from January next year to give Zambia time to plan new procurements of the life-saving drugs.

New wave of Sudanese refugees flee into neighbouring Chad

Large numbers of Sudanese refugees are pouring into eastern Chad with more than 18,500 people arriving in the past two weeks alone, the United Nations refugee agency (UNHCR) said.

After the bombing of the Zamzam camp for internally displaced people in Darfur and the city of al-Fasher, it says hundreds of thousands of people are on the move.

Many of them, including children, elderly people, and pregnant women, are severely malnourished.

“We didn’t expect this big influx of people,” says Jean-Paul Habamungu, head of the UNHCR sub-office in Chad.

“It’s terrible here at the border, many children, unaccompanied children like the one of 14 years we just met,  this boy of 9 years who is crying here looking for their parents.”

Habamungu says there are also many people with specific needs including pregnant and lactating women who are malnourished.

“So we expect more malnourished people coming now, talking about people who are dying on their way from Zamzam to between Tawila and Tiné, dying with hunger.”

The UNHCR says some 76% of them have lived through traumatic experiences such as sexual violence, extortion, and theft.

In addition, it says Chad is struggling to take in the new arrivals.

It already hosts some 1.3 million refugees, including 794,000 who have fled Sudan since the civil war started there over two years ago.

Humanitarian resources across the country are severely limited, impacting the ability to provide water, shelter, health, education, and protection.

Last month, Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces stormed into the Zamzam camp and went on a three-day rampage, killing at least 400 people, after months of starving its population with a siege.

Refugees and aid workers say RSF fighters gunned down men and women in the streets, beat and tortured others, and raped and sexually assaulted women and girls.

The 11 April attack was the worst ever suffered by Zamzam, Sudan’s largest displacement camp, in its 20 years of existence.

Once home to some 500,000 residents, the camp has been virtually emptied.

The RSF also destroyed Zamzam’s only functioning medical centre, killing nine workers from Relief International.

Much of the south and east of the camp was burned to the ground, the General Coordination said.
