Tanzania Taifa stars score late to tie the Malawi Flames to 1 – 1 draw

Winger Micium Mhone, returning to the Flames squad after a long absence, reportedly deflected in a shot to put the visitors ahead in the first half.

Taifa Stars striker and Goal Player of the Year 2014, Mbwana Samatta scored a late equalizer to make sure that Taifa Stars didn’t lose in front of the home crowd on Saturday.

 

The match was played in Mwanza City instead of Dar es Salaam and was attended by a good number of soccer fans from the city and nearby towns.

Samatta scored in the 76 minute after Mrisho Ngasa’s danced his away around the defence and passed the ball to the striker who had an easy tap in.

The Flames coach Young Chimodzi handed Red Lions Chikoti Chirwa a debut when stepping in late in the game for Polokwane City striker Esau Kanyenda.

The veteran striker Kanyenda had started upfront alongside in-form Peter Wadabwa who has also returned to the fold.

In the second half Mart Nooij made changes subbing Haruna Chanongo for Mrisho Ngassa in 59th minute a change that changed the pace of the game.

Nooj also made another sub in the 68th minute where Amri Kiemba was substituted for Salum Abubakar who partnered effectively with Ngassa infront.

Stars continued to attack and came close to getting a lead in the 80th minute through John Bocco who had replaced Thomas Ulimwengu.

The friendly match is a part of both team’s preparations for COSAFA tournament which is to take place in May in South Africa.
