“Teachers are as bedrock for quality education”-Dr Kabwila

LILONGWE-(MANA)-Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Jessie Kabwila has praised teachers as the key to quality education due to their hard work and dedication when it comes to teaching in the country.

Dr Kabwila made the remarks on Thursday at the Malawi School of Government (MSG) during the official opening ceremony of Leadership Summer School in Lilongwe.

She said the initiative will help capacitate the teacher educators and aligns with development plans to upgrade existing teachers training institutions to accommodate continuous teacher training and development.

“I am reliably informed that a nice 2022 Mary Immaculate College has been working with the
Directorate of Teachers Education and Development (DTED) and a draft memorandum of understanding between Malawi and MIM has been developed and will be officially finalised soon.

“I am also extremely happy to learn that the Prime Minister of Ireland supports advancing links
between Malawi and Ireland regarding the teacher education and higher education as it will
contribute to human capital development aligning with Malawi 2063,” said Dr Kabwila.

Kabwila said the initiative demonstrates full commitment to achieving the ambitions expressed
in both the Malawi 2063 Vision and Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number 4 which emphasizes on quality education and promoting life long learning opportunities to all.

Meanwhile, Finn’ o Murchn’ who is a retired head of the Mary Immaculate College from Ireland said the partnership with Malawi will help to promote quality education in all the TTCs in the country as they are prominent when it comes to education.

“The memorandum of the understanding by the two countries will help to provide all the required
resources to help Malawi provide quality education through teachers obtained from the TTCs
across the nation,” he said.

Some of the teachers training college representatives that were present during the trainings included Karonga TTC, Rumphi TTC, Kasungu TTC, Lilongwe TTC, Mchinji TTC, National Council for Higher Education, among others.
