He was seen carrying a rifle, backpack, and wearing body armor when entering the school building through a south facing door.

The shooter then gunned down his grandmother who was within the premises before he crashing his vehicle near the school, Al Jazeera reported.

An official from the Texas Department of Public Safety said the shooter then fired at children, teachers, whoever was in his way upon entering the school before he was gunned down by police.

Speaking on the matter, the US President Joe Biden has urged people in the country to stand up to the country’s politically powerful gun lobby.

He has pinned the blocking of the enactment of tougher firearms safety laws as the contributing factor to the increasing mass shootings.

Mass shootings have been rampant in US for the last couple of years. In 2020, there were 19,350 firearm homicides, nearly 35 percent compared with 2019.

This year, about 212 mass shootings have been recorded so far and the most recent incident prior to this happened on May 14, when a gunman attacked a grocery store in a predominantly Black neighborhood of Buffalo, New York, killing 10 people.
