Temwa Chawinga scores brace goal against Louisville

KANSAS-(MaraviPost)-Malawian forward Temwa Chawinga continued her remarkable form in the USA National Women’s Soccer League on Friday night, scoring her ninth goal of the season as Kansas City Current beat Racing Louisville FC 2-0 away from home.

Chawinga broke the deadlock in the 64th minute after a well-timed pass from Michelle Cooper, before Elizabeth Ball sealed the win late on.

The goal moved Chawinga just one strike behind Spanish international Esther González in the Golden Boot race and left her a single goal away from becoming the first Kansas City Current player to score 30 regular-season goals, as well as the 15th player in NWSL history to reach that milestone for one club.

Kansas City extended their unbeaten start to the season with the victory, strengthening their lead at the top of the table with 36 points from 14 matches, four ahead of Portland Thorns.

The win also marked their seventh consecutive triumph since the midseason break, underlining their dominance in both attack and defence this year.

Chawinga, last season’s NWSL MVP and Golden Boot winner, is also in contention to defend both titles, leading the league in expected goals per match and having twice been named Player of the Month in 2025.

Her pace, movement, and composure in front of goal have made her one of the most feared strikers in the league.
